Subject: Sunday Stories for Grown Ups–on Friday night!
*Sunday Stories for Grown Ups at the Bynum General Store (although this one
is on Friday, Feb. 4)
*
Although it’s called Sunday Stories for Grown Ups, Part 2 in the series is
actually taking place this Friday, February 4th from 7 pm to 9 pm at the
Bynum General Store. The first Sunday Stories for Grown Ups had standing
room only so attendees are encouraged to get there early to grab a seat. This
series features a variety of storytelling styles and stories from some of
the area’s finest storytellers!
Event organizer, Garry Lipson is a retired high school construction teacher
and cross country track coach. His hilarious personal experience stories
will have you on the edge of your seat. At this event, he will share Part
II of the “Mu Farm Trilogy” based on his travels in the late ‘60s. Don’t
worry if you missed Part I, Lipson will include a recap.
Joining Lipson is former professional comic book writer, Henry Vogel, who
naturally took to making up stories once his son was born. As his son grew
older, Vogel was invited to his son’s classrooms to share his stories and
he’s been storytelling ever since.
Jane Hauser, a graduate of UNC, has been on-air talent with WBTV in
Charlotte, and has taught French and English in Charlotte, Greensboro and
Providence, RI. She shares stories of being a football coach’s daughter, a
coal miner’s granddaughter and newspaperman’s wife. Hauser has been a
professional storyteller for four years and has taught fairy tale
interpretation at OLLI at Duke. She has entertained at the NC Storytelling
Festival and will represent 8 Southeastern states as a teller at the
National Storytelling Network conference in Los Angeles.
Rounding out the line-up is Claire Ramsey who discovered storytelling by
drawing pictures when she was still too young to write. Ramsey’s
storytelling upgraded from hobby to a business, Stories with Claire, after
she took a university storytelling class. The “premier storyteller” of Wake
Forest and the ex officio of the North Carolina Storytelling Guild, Ramsey
believes storytelling helps people value education and learn from one
another.
Although this program is not intended for small children, young people ages
10 and up will definitely enjoy this event.
The third part in this series will take place March 6th and will* *feature
three new storytellers so mark your calendars now!
