DID YOU KNOW? George Moses Horton (ca. 1797-1883), a slave in Chatham County, wrote “The Hope of Liberty,” the first book published in the South by a black man. The George Moses Horton collection is a new collection of literature at the Chatham Community Library that has been made possible through donations consolidated by the Friends of the Chatham Community Library. A display of selections from this collection will be featured at the library this month. All library card holders may check out books from this collection.
