Subject: Non-Profit Introduction: NHS Arts Education Foundation

Established in 2007, the NHS Arts Education Foundation (NHSAEF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, all-volunteer organization working to support the arts education faculty and students at Northwood High School. The mission of NHSAEF is as a “community initiative dedicated to ensuring excellence in arts education by identifying, creating, and supporting programs that enrich learning, foster student achievement, and increase community involvement.”

NHSAEF maintains a website (www.NHSAEF. org) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/pages/Northwood-High-School-Arts-Education-Foundation/40062039586?ref=ts)
Visit to learn about Northwood’s award-winning arts education department—featuring the state’s oldest public high school dance program; a celebrated marching band; a visual arts program sending students to leading university art programs across the nation; students who participate in (among others) the Scholastic Art Awards Competition, the NC All-State Chorus, the NC Band festivals, Governor’s School, and the NC Theatre’s Capital Awards program; and distinguished faculty.

Fundraising efforts focus on teacher grants and the foundation’s primary goal—annual college scholarships to NHS students for achievements in choral music, dance, dramatic arts, instrumental music, and visual arts.

NHSAEF provides arts advocacy efforts, public relations and promotions assistance, as well as hospitality services at all NorthwoodArts events. It underwrites arts residencies and purchases equipment and supplies for the department. Members may work directly with faculty on individual projects—providing expertise and resources, working on grant applications, serving as consultants, chaperones, or mentoring students. If you have interests or skills in dance, visual arts, choral or instrumental music, or theatre arts, or affiliated activities such as promotions, grantwriting, costuming, etc. join us!

All community members are invited to join the NHSAEF mailing list.
