Subject: Landfill – Thank you Preserve Chatham County – BUT STILL ERRORS!

THANK YOU, PRESERVE CHATHAM COUNTY, FOR CORRECTING YOUR ERRORS – HOWEVER YOU ARE CREATING MORE ERRORS!

Please be careful in what you say, because every time I read something you posted that I can’t validate, you undermine your own credibility.

Review: On 1/4/2011, Preserve Chatham County posted a message addressing errors that I cited, on 12/28/2010, in its previous posting (posted: 12/27/2010) about solid waste issues in Chatham County and the upcoming decisions and forums about a new landfill in Chatham County.

I FOUND ANOTHER ERROR POSTED BY PRESERVE CHATHAM COUNTY

Preserve Chatham County said that the engineering firm hired to do the Feasibility study “does not claim to have any expertise in alternatives to landfills,” and gave the following link: www.rsgengineers.com

I found quite the opposite at this site: (www.rsgengineers.com)

1.) I clicked on the “Statement of Qualifications link” (http://www.rsgengineers.com/qualifications..asp)

2.) and looked the following document: Landfill Gas Management and Carbon Credit Services:
(www.rsgengineers.com/docs/2009-Landfill Gas Mgmt Carbon Credit Services.pdf)

3.) On page 1 of this document the firms list “Representative Projects” and includes the following (bullet point #2): “Development of landfill gas-to-energy projects”

I ask you, if this is not an alternative option to a landfill, what is?

SOME GOOD POINTS IN SPITE OF ERRORS

In spite of these errors, Preserve Chatham County, I think you raise some good points, and they coincide with my own questions, namely:

1.) Has the decision to actually build a landfill already been made or are they basing their decision-making on feedback from the upcoming meetings?

If the decision has already been made, I ask:

2.) How was the decision made to build a landfill?

3.) Who made that decision?

4.) Why did they make that decision?

5.) Are the open forums about the landfill meant to help decide only where the landfill will go or are they hearing feedback about other issues as well?

BETTER COMMUNICATION FROM THE COUNTY IS NEEDED – WEBSITE IS WANTING

I feel the County should do a better job informing their citizens about how they are operating. I have found the website to be hard to navigate, restrictive, and near-useless.

Specifically,:

A.) I have not found it easy to find information on their website: Often I had to keep “hunting and pecking” to find out what information is on the website, and often it is hard to figure out how all the information goes together, when it was posted, or where the it came from;

B.) some of the information required me to enter a login and password, which I do not have, so I couldn’t view those documents;

C.) the slide presentations are near-useless to look at because it is unclear what was said about the bullet points, diagrams, and figures included in the slides.
