Subject: Stolen Dogs
Both the Sheriff’s office and Animal control refuse to investigate dog fighting in Chatham County. Dog fighters are know to steal dogs not for fighting but to train other dogs to fight.
Disappearing dogs are an invisible crime and while some are sold to labs, many end up mauled to death. This is not a new crime in Chatham and the HSUS estimates that there are one hundred thousand dog fights going on in the US at any time. Chatham is not somehow immune to this crime.
Although deputies and animal control officers are trained to investigate dog fighting it is of very little interest to them.
We should expect and demand more from law enforcement and we should all open our eyes to what is behind dog theft.
