Subject: I am a Mass Hysterian?
Yesterday’s post form Ms. Dirlik stated that she, after 4 visits to the library, smelled nothing and felt no discomfort- And she went on to imply that just maybe it was “mass hysteria”? Really now? I hardly call the 5 or 6 people brave enough to stick their nose out and complain about the library odor problem mass hysteria. If it is, then I am a mass hysterian. A loudmouth, a whistle blower, a troublemaker, media freak, show-off. But the fact remains, no one yet can nail down the problem with the oder/smell that some of us are bothered by. And if some cannot smell or feel it, pehaps it is silently doing its damage without them knowing it. High Blood pressure is not the only “silent killer” humans must deal with.
As far as the actual number of people bothered by this odor/stink, just because they haven’t posted anything on the chatlist, dosnen’t mean they don’t exist. I have heard from many via personal email.
Everybody that isn’t bothered by the odor, seems to want to put the source inside the building. New rugs, new this, new that. New smell wears off. This smell is coming from above, somewhere on the roof, in the roof, in the upper part of the building. It is just as strong, if not stronger on the outside. If your nose is attuned to it, you can smell it as far away as the walking trail. Residents in a near by setttlements were bothered by the odors during the building and compeletion of the building.
As far as employees of the library complaining? With the job situation in this country? Most will endure discomfort for job security.
I agree that workers should be tested- but for what?
Mass hysteria? The hysteria will begin with the first death that could possibly be connected with this unknown, unseen “problem”-

Anyone ever went into SunTrust Bank beside the old library? It smells like an outhouse every time I go in there. It is a sickening smell.
