The Northwood boys defeated Bartlett Yancey (1st round state 2A) in Yanceyville tonight 3-1 in OT. The Chargers held a 1-0 lead late in the match when they deflected a hard Bartlett Yancey shot for an “own goal” to tie it at 1-1. NHS took the 1-0 first half lead with a Connor Lawrence header on a ball from AJ Wyatt. In the first ten minute OT
Pedro Ramos scored on a 15 yard shot with an assist from Austin Tingen to give the Chargers a 2-1 advantage. With two minutes remaining in the first OT Joey Suprick scored off an assist from Austin Tingen to give us the 3-1 lead. Northwood held off BY in the final ten minute OT to preserve the win. Inspired play from subs, Josh Alvord, Max Middleton, Jeff Forbes, Jack Koch and Ethan Bourne helped kill the last ten minute OT. Ryan Smith had a great match in the net with seven saves. The 2nd round will send the Northwood squad to Roanoke Rapids this Saturday night for a 7pm match.
