Pilgrimage for Justice and Peace

The Carolina Interfaith Task Force on Central America (CITCA), along with 33 organizations and churches, is cosponsoring a 100-mile walk through Charlotte, Asheville, Winston-Salem, Moncure, Pittsboro, Burlington, Graham, Greensboro and Raleigh. Demands include: Moratorium on Raids and Deportations, Just and Humane Immigration Reform,
Fair Trade Policies and Worker Justice.

“In the past few months, in Charlotte and across NC, we have witnessed the rise of immigration raids, the passing of local anti-immigrant ordinances and an onslaught of messages of hate targeting Latinos. This has created a state of fear and uncertainty for all. It is urgent that we develop a sane immigration policy at both the state and national levels to allow people
to migrate in a legal and safe manner, and enable them to work in this state and across the country,” said CITCA Director Gail Phares, who recently visited Mexico to investigate the reasons that thousands of people from that area are migrating to North Carolina.

The Pilgrimage will be visiting Chatham County on Tuesday, April 7th, and Wednesday, April 8th. For a schedule of the Chatham County portion, please visit the following link:
