The 19th Annual Haw River Clean-Up-A-Thon
Saturday, March 14, 2009
It’s time for spring cleaning along the Haw River & Jordan Lake!
On Saturday, March 14, volunteers will gather at locations along, riverbanks, creeks, bridges, islands and along the shoreline of Jordan Lake prepared to remove trash that threatens wildlife and water quality. We are looking for more volunteers to help clean up at the Bynum sites and the 15-501 Natural Area.
Last year’s clean-up collected over 580 bags of trash and nearly 200 tires with the help of several hundred volunteers and stretched 60 miles from Burlington to Bynum. The 19th annual Haw River Clean-Up-A-Thon offers volunteers an opportunity to get involved in their community and to help make our waterways healthier and safer for people, fish and wildlife. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to participate –children will need adult supervision, and we ask all participants to sign a liability release form. Those interested need only bring clothing appropriate for the weather, sturdy work shoes and a willingness to work. We will provide bags and gloves. Citizen’s groups and local youth groups (such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts) are encouraged to participate.
For more information about how you can get involved, please contact the Haw River Assembly at (919) 542-5790 or email us at .
