Chatham Habitat Home Stores

Our mission at Chatham Habitat for Humanity is to build houses to help provide affordable housing in Chatham County.  We partner with qualified families to build their house using the prospective homeowner’s sweat equity, and a lot of volunteer labor from many civic organizations, area churches, and individuals who want to help with our mission.  Once the house is built we sell the house to the partner family at no interest and at no profit.

The Chatham Habitat Home Store was established in 1991 to provide a steady stream of cash to support the building of houses by selling donated new and used household and other items.  This merchandise is sold at very reasonable prices and all profits are used to build houses.  In the process, we have a substantial impact on recycling.  What started in the small building (now Blossom) across from the law enforcement center is now housed in two buildings totaling over 10,000 square feet.

Our truck is out picking up donations five days a week.  We also get a lot of drop-offs at our location.  Items are promptly inspected, cleaned, tested and priced so inventory on our sales floors change daily if not hourly.

The original store, Home Store, is where you will find everything for the home, including appliances, furniture, antiques, artwork, house ware items, decorative seasonal items, books, CDs, TVs, stereos, computers and more.

The second store, Home Store Too, sells building materials and hardware. Items normally in stock include doors, windows, cabinets, paint, plumbing, electrical supplies, light fixtures, sinks, lawn and garden, grills, outdoor furniture, bikes and more.

Thanks to our generous donors, hard working volunteers and staff and loyal customers, the stores’ profits last year paid for the construction of five houses.

The Chatham Habitat for Humanity Home Stores are getting close to completion of our most recent expansion. We are finishing the construction of a building which will become the new home of Home Store Too. More space will mean more inventory which will lead to more sales and profits to apply to our goal of building affordable housing in partnership with families throughout Chatham County. Customers can expect to find items not currently available, such as carpeting, wood flooring and vinyl. Our building approach makes it possible to own the building at a cost per month less than the cost of renting comparable space. We expect to have grand opening festivities in mid-January. Stay tuned for more information.

In both stores, we need more volunteers to help at the sales counters and to place merchandise on the sales floor.

For more information on volunteering at the Home Stores or on the construction sites please contact Suzanne at 542-0788 x201; email .

Our hours are 10 to 6 Monday through Friday, 8 to 4 on Saturday.
