I am rather surprised that there are not more accidents there. What causes these accidents? People and their discourtesy and refusal to slow down to the speed limit and refusal to honor the right of way of other vehicles.
Trying going the speed limit in that area. They will pass you and you see many weave in and out as they get to the intersection as if one car closer at the light will get them to where they are going any faster. I have waited at the light turning from the shopping centers onto 15-501 and watched people making the turns against oncoming traffic on 15-501, simply because they are unable to wait a few seconds more.
They misjudge the distance at that the intersection time and time again. It is a longer distance to make the turn into Mann’s Chapel or the shopping centers then other intersections because it has two left turn lanes for the Manns Chapel/shopping center traffic instead of one left hand turn lane. So the distance is greater to accommodate the extra left turn lanes entering onto 15-501.
If people would take their foot off the gas and not exceed the speed limit of 45mph and yield to the ones in the right of way, there would no longer be accidents at that intersection. You would think they would wait for the left turn signal instead of risking injury to themselves and whom ever may be in the car with them.
However, it seems that is impossible for most of the drivers these days. Simply because they do NOT give a dam.
