Subject: A complaint was filed with the State Board Of Elections about the chatlist and bulletin board
Concerning the big question about “conflict of interest” that has been brought up by a couple of folks recently.
About two and a half months ago a complaint was filed by someone living in Chatham County with the State Board of Elections about the Chatham Chatlist and the Chatham Online Bulletin Board.
The individual(s) felt that they are a “patent conflict of interest and unfair”
Below is the State Board of Elections response. It is fairly simple and to the point.
“The State Board of Elections has limited authority to regulate speech – most speech is protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Our agency does not have authority to restrict speech contained on BBS sites, chat rooms, or other online messaging systems.”
