Subject: Let’s give a warm welcome to visiting Mennonite group!
A group of Mennonites from Willow Street, Pennsylvania is traveling to Siler City on Saturday, Sept. 6 to help build a house in the Westmont subdivision during “Building on Faith Week,” a national program of Habitat for Humanity International. The group, made up of experienced builders, electricians, and plumbers, plans to frame a house, install roofing and siding, hang wall board, and nearly complete an entire house for a local low-income family. Many of the volunteers are using vacation time from their jobs to participate in the project.
Chatham Habitat is seeking churches, businesses, and other groups willing to provide meals for the Mennonites during their stay in Chatham County. Lunch and dinner for approximately 2-30 people are needed for Monday, Sept. 8 through Wednesday, Sept. 11. In addition, dinner for approximately 10 early arrivals will be needed on Saturday, Sept. 6. Lunches will be served on the construction site in Siler City (we can help with pick-up and delivery, if needed). Dinners can be served at local churches, restaurants, etc. or at Camp Royall in Pittsboro where the group will be staying. (We are a non-profit organization, so this even counts as a tax-deductable donation.)
Chatham Habitat is also seeking additional churches and faith organizations to participate in the next Apostles Build, a program which brings 12 churches together to sponsor and build a home in partnership with a low-income family. The next build is scheduled to start this fall in Pittsboro. Visit our web site to see photos from our last Apostles Build. Click on the link to the Mennonites story and scroll to the end. You may see people you know!
To participate in either of these programs or for more information, call Bett Essen at (919) 0794, ext. 214 or e-mail me at bettessen-at-chathamhabitat.org.
Since 1989, Chatham Habitat for Humanity has worked to change substandard housing conditions throughout Chatham County by making homeownership possible for nearly 100 families. In the process, Habitat is able to transform lives, improve neighborhoods, and most importantly, give hope and strength to our communities. For more information, visit www.ChathamHabitat.org.
