Although this no doubt will make me one unpopular old lady, I agree with Linda Cooper – we do need the additional revenue that large chain stores generate.

If you oppose the chain stores, just don’t patronize them. There are those of us who do appreciate the chains, and use them. If there is equal pricing at chains and locally-owned businesses, I use the locals. I really think that they are more customer-oriented that chains, but small businesses cannot always carry everything you need.

I had a great experience at Lowe’s last Sunday. My freezer had died, and if it had been a day that I could have gotten a new one from Archie Hackney, I certainly would have. In this emergency situation, I used Lowes, and they guys that delivered not only did a fantastic job with the setup, they helped me empty the old freezer.

Please limit the outcries. I know this is an unpopular position!
