Morning all-

My husband is one of the “recyclers” some of you don’t care for. About a month he brought home a manual mower from the recycle center. I don’t know if it was in the bin or the swap shop, I stopped asking years ago because I’m trying not to encourage his hobby (half of what he brings home I take to the Thrift Store eventually). Frankly if it stays out of the land fill I don’t care who gets it.

Anyway, I was like, you have to be kidding??? I HATE mowing grass to start with. Well, surprise.
This thing is great. I’ve decided what I didn’t like about mowing was the noise, smell and heat from the gas powered mower. Mowing with this thing and it’s swish, swish, swish sound as the blades whirl is a pleasure. I find myself mowing a little every other day.

I also doesn’t require long pants or shoes (my feet don’t get green b/c it doesn’t chew the grass up)
It also doesn’t spit sharp object in all directions.

Ok. So here’s the drawbacks.

It won’t cut long stuff, like dandelion weeds etc. I “discussed” with my husband that the blades might need to be sharpened and he says that wouldn’t make any difference.

Since we have nothing invested in this thing and it was someone else trash, if didn’t come with instructions. So anyone out there have any? Oil it?

Also, I say the faster you push it, the better it cuts. Again, hubby says doesn’t matter.

And we may want to invest in another some time, is there a type/brand someone is happy with or not happy with? This is an American.

I had visions of those old movies where the guys is struggling to push it. It’s not that way at all.
It doesn’t weight 10 pounds. Small sticks do get caught in it but that’s a job I’ve passed on to the kids.
It’s the teen-age version of the pick up sticks game.

Anyway, sorry so long but it’s nice to find out your wrong about something that seems like such a no brainer way to save $$$ and gas and help the environment. We haven’t run the gas mower since we got this. It doesn’t cut close to edges, so every so often we are forced to use the weedeater but am looking for alternatives (no snipping with scissors, we have too much property). I have had the idea of mulching around the rock walls so we can mow with this right over the mulch and eliminate the weed eater altogher (I dislike the weedeater sound worse than the gas mower).

Thanks,
Meg
