We are attempting to put together a 25 year reunion in May of 2009. However, we need to find our classmates! If you are or know a 1984 Northwood graduate, please email your mailing address and email address to chargers1984reunion-at-yahoo.com so that we can add you to our mailing lists. We will be sending out more information once we acquire a majority of our classmates' information. Please help us spread the word! -------------------- 2 -------------------- Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2008 06:01:00 -0800 (PST) From: Chuck <piper_chuck-at-yahoo.com> Subject: Re: Is anyone else as puzzled as I am? A few thoughts on your questions. First, it's important to remember that much of the media in this area is Raleigh/Durham centric. Raleigh, and the other municipalities on its water system, is still in a world of hurt because its main source of water, Falls Lake, is still 7.5 feet below full. Since Raleigh is in so much trouble, the media still hypes the drought. Meanwhile, Jordan Lake has rebounded nicely and as of this morning is within 3/4 feet of being back to normal. Since Chatham isn't usually on the radar screen of the media, we don't hear the good news. This is probably a good thing. If too many people in Raleigh notice how well Jordan is doing, they might try to figure out how to draw from it. So, the next question is why is Jordan doing so well and Falls isn't? I can only speculate that it's a combination of things. Perhaps more rain has fallen on the Jordan watershed? If you look at the inflow history you'll see that on the days where we've had rain the inflow to Jordan runs three to four times higher than Falls. Perhaps Jordan has a better watershed (more land feeding the lake)? And finally, only about half as much water is drawn from Jordan as is drawn from Falls. -------------------- 3 -------------------- Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2008 09:10:23 -0500 From: "Tom Glendinning" <Goaglen-at-intrex.net> Subject: Subject: Is anyone else as puzzled as I am? Jordan Lake is fed by a drainage area which goes all the way to a point north of Reidsville, west of Greensboro, east to Mebane and winds southeast to Jordan approx. 30-40 miles wide and sixty miles long. A little rain in Greensboro will produce a lot of water for the Haw River and Jordan Lake. We do not have to have rain for the river to flow. Check with the Haw River Assembly to see a map of it: www.hawriver.org Of course, if they can not remember who their founders were, I am not sure they can find where the Haw River is. It has only rained a few times in the last many months. How then did Jordan Lake go from being able to walk out to the island, to having LOTS of water covering the roadway to the island, etc. almost overnight? I'm just curious. It's a lot about how much they let out of the dam, vs. how much is coming in, esp. north of here, and how much we are using. No-body's watering anything this time of year. We're not filling swimming pools. Jordan is primarily flood control for parts south, and some of the time, water is stored to buffer the flow out and down through Fayetteville. Later in the summer, that water will be needed to maintain water quality south of here--we can't keep it all. If you really want to know what happens with the water, read the Lake's website, in particular their waterflow plan, available on line at: http://epec.saw.usace.army.mil/jwcplan.txt -------------------- 5 -------------------- Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2008 10:38:56 EST From: NCBiz-at-aol.com Subject: gutter installation ? I went to the Mardi Gras Ball Sat. night and had a wonderful time. I think I was the only one not wearing shoes. My tall sister Lula would like to know who the gentleman was that danced with her about 9:00? And I would like to know who the person was with the bright colored outfit that kept buying me drinks. I hope they have this every year- maybe twice a year. I thought the event went off very well, considering it was the first time. The sponsors might consider also having a Harvest Ball- (please, no Halloween Ball) Also, what about having a Mardi Gras Poster contest?( original art, no computer print-outs) These could be in turn be auctioned off, after three of the best were selected and then one final winner. It would really stimulate interest and would be good advertising. Getting back to the Krewe name- how about Pittsblur? N.A. This free, one-hour presentation will be delivered to parents at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, at the school. Making College Financial Planning Count is designed to help parents gain an understanding of how the college financing process works, including options available to develop a college funding strategy, how to plan for and manage all college costs and different types of financial aid available. Parents will learn how to send their child to college without risking their financial future. -------------------- 10 -------------------- Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2008 15:05:39 -0500 From: Debbie Tunnell <debbietunnell-at-hotmail.com> Subject: Hike along the Haw this Saturday There is still time to join in on the Haw River Assembly’s hike this Saturday, February 9, along the Haw River in the State Natural Area between Hwy 64 and Bynum. The hike will start at 10:00 am with naturalist, Joe Jacob, leading the way. The walk is expected to take about 2 to 3 hours. Most impressive about this Natural Area is the feeling of remoteness, the old growth trees and the beautiful views along the river. Giant sycamore, oak, hickory, sweetgum, birch and loblolly pine trees dominate the forest canopy. Understory species include holly, ironwood and mountain laurel. Hiking along the river in the natural area is more like an easy stroll through the woods. Come join others for a glorious day along the river. You can go to the Haw River Assembly's website for more information. To make a reservation, please call Joe Jacob at the Haw River Canoe & Kayak Company 336.260-6465. If you are interested in more opportunities this year, look up the 2008 Haw River Assembly’s Field Trip events by going to the HRA website www.hawriver.org to find the complete calendar. More trips may be added as the year unfolds. We’ll see you down by the river, along a creek's edge, on the lake or within this beautiful watershed, right here in your backyard. -------------------- 11 -------------------- Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2008 12:50:00 -0800 (PST) From: Linda Bienvenue <lindabienvenue-at-yahoo.com> Subject: landscape/design service I am looking for a reasonable, dependable and artistic landscaper or service to assist in changing my back yard from the current red clay terrain to something aesthetically pleasing, yet sustainable even in the dry conditions that we are currently experiencing. There is an irrigation system in place (though not used) due to the drought, and the fact that the landscaper who installed it did not finish the job by putting in sod - hence nothing to water! Personal recommendations and contacts are welcome. Thank you! -------------------- 12 -------------------- Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2008 17:04:13 -0500 From: "Phyllis Smith" <phyllis_smith-at-ncsu.edu> Subject: Please Post Pittsboro Needle Crafters Thursday, February 14, 6:30PM-8:30PM Chatham County Agriculture Extension Building After January's introductory class, are you ready for advanced crochet? Alexis will again be teaching and instruct how to read a pattern and complete a "granny square". This simple but beautiful classic pattern lends itself well to making a scarf or an afghan. For those of you either still struggling or were unable to attend January class, Alexis will review crochet basics. Bring a "G" or "H" crochet hook and a skein of acrylic yarn. On March 13, we will talk about the many creative uses of fusibles and stabilizers. With so many new types in the marketplace today, this class will take the mystery out of what fusible and/or stabilizer to choose for superb results. And, in April, the very popular craft of punch needle will be introduced. Due to necessary supplies, reservations will be required. Classes are held the 2nd Thursday of each month, September through June, 6:30PM to 8:30PM in the kitchen of the Chatham County Extension building directly behind the government buildings. A class fee of $5 is collected to cover some supplies with the year-end remainder donated to a local charity in June. Everyone is welcome and no prior skills are necessary. Come to learn a new craft and meet others with like interests! Good job Chatham Co Sheriff How do 5 people escape from a detention facility in Pittsboro? They probably walked out. I always thought Pittsboro was a safe place. A place where you could go out without locking your doors. In light of Monday night's prison break I will probably start locking mine. I would encourage the Sheriff to do the same. Chatham County, if you are not upset about this, you are not listening, an elementary school is close to this building. One of the guys that escaped was charged with being charged with rape and indecent liberties with a minor. Hello?! What if this happened at noon instead of midnight? It might be time for to review procedure at the sheriff's office. For now I hope these guys are caught and that Sheriff Webster gives us some answers as to what is happening on West St. Cal Add as favourites (80) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 1059 | Print
