There is so much great music here in the Triangle, bands new and old abound, labels spring up, clubs are full almost every night of the week. The area is also rich with learning opportunities, colleges and universities, museums, arts and science centers. At Shakori Hills though, these two great aspects of our larger community are blended so that an attendee could learn without even knowing it, renew her mind with fresh ideas, maybe even take a class from her favorite band!

The phrase “internet cafe” does not always mean online gambling.  A Google search also turns up coffee shops and salons much like Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels frequented while they cooked up their unique views who should rule the economy, individuals, and “the community at-large”.  Such references ALWAYS begin faked rage but let me continue my point.

The inaugural festival of this North Carolina-centric beer, farm fresh food and music will take place on Saturday, September 3rd, at Shakori Hills. Gates open at 12pm music will go through 12am.

Musicians performing are Bill Toms and Hard Rain (a poet, a soul-shouter, and guitar slinger–a great rock n’ soul band), The Galactic Cowboy Orchestra (Chick Corea meets The Dixie Dregs meets A Prairie Home Companion), The Olympic Ass Kickin’ Team (Imagine a blend of The Faces, the Stones, NRBQ!), Greg Humphreys (fronted the bands Dillon Fence and HOBEX. You all know him!) , The Lizzy Ross Band (fuses jazz and folk music with dirty blues, rock and soul), and Cortete (Chatham County’s newest concoction of groove!).

WoodsRock III Music Festival – A Benefit for Transportation
 
WoodsRock Music Festival is the annual fundraising event to support the transportation program at Woods.

Charter Schools receive no State or Federal support for their transportation programs.  Thus, Woods Charter School is required to purchase its own school buses, title, license, and insure them, and pay for all necessary repairs, etc. out of its general operating budget, which impacts the availability of funds to support other programs.

All funds from the event will go toward the down payment on the land on which many Shakori Hills events are held. Once the organization owns the land, they will have more freedom and infrastructure to carry on their mission of being a center for arts education and community-building for Chatham County and beyond.

Pittsboro, NC – The Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance, held April 21-24, has a new project. It may seem small, but they are hoping to make a big impact. Every festival, without much thought, thousands of people buy water in plastic bottles. Some of them get recycled, some get re-used, and some just get thrown away. This spring, none of the vendors at the festival will be selling water in plastic bottles. The festival itself will be selling
collectable metal water bottles at a very affordable price, as well
as glass mason jars.
