Part 2

My notes on the Monday, January 9, 2012, CCS school board meeting.

Statement to the community about the state auditor’s report.

This was not on the agenda – I’m not sure why they didn’t add it when they made the other addition.

Mr. Hamm read the following statement on behalf of the board (this
statement was reviewed by attorneys during the closed session between
the retreat and this meeting)

More information on the state auditor’s investigative report. The report is several pages long, so I am just posting the auditor’s recommendation and pertinent notes here.

Chatham School Board needs to be better prepared when dealing with their budget

From: BRIAN BOCK
Subject: School Board request for additional funding

Much has been written and discussed in the past week about the Chatham County School Budget. Some believe that the majority of the commissioners do not support the Chatham County Schools because we did not approve a request by the superintendent for an additional $706,000 to cover cuts imposed by the State legislature or to approve county relief of a $98,000 water bill from the town of Pittsboro.

Some very bad recommendations are being made by the Chatham School Superintendent

From: Daniel & Rhonda Sundberg
Subject: Proposed School Cuts

Some very bad recommendations are being made by the Superintendant which could be voted on by the BOE !
After reading the press release below please note:
In April $311,000.00 was “saved” because of retirement benefit requirement reductions. The first thing that Robert Logan did was put back central office personnel. Now they have totally omitted that cut from consideration. There are other cuts to consider before taking the teachers and TA’s away from the teaching positions. Let your commissioners know that they need to step in to recommend cuts to central office first.2011-2012 School Budget Challenges Continue

Last week school districts across the state received their local education budget adjustments for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. Prior to the state approving its final budget, Chatham County Schools estimated a $5,027,902 deficit and worked diligently throughout the spring and early summer to develop a budget which addressed this deficit with

School superintendent Robert Logan does not act on school board request

Subject: Central Office Cuts

Dear Rober Logan, I just reviewed the new scenarios 9B and 9C. I was surprised that even though both Mr. O’Brian and Mr. Leonard had explicitly asked for additional cuts on April 4th to the central office “to see what it would look like”, (I assume similar to scenario 9), both 9B and 9C have  LESS cuts to Central office than 9 or 9A.

The hard facts about Superintendant Logan

From: Trace and Patricia Swayze
Subject: The hard facts about Superintendant  Logan

School Superintendent is one heck of a job, be glad you have such a high caliber person as Mr.Logan doing that job. I sure would not want to spend a day in his shoes, trying to accommodate everyone’s concerns important or not.
That said, I for one know when I see the Logans at home they are non stop till they drop.
