Subject: Public Input on the Courthouse

Residents interested in the rebuilding of the Historic County Courthouse can provide broad feedback ideas on what functions the courthouse might include when it is rebuilt during input at an upcoming community forum on Tues. 6/29, from 6:30-8:30 pm at Northwood High School in the cafeteria. The school is located in Pittsboro on US 15-501, just north of the US 64 bypass.

Residents may also complete a brief survey to provide input.

Greetings

NHS Athletic Boosters has had a very successful year. NHSB with the help from parents, coaches, athletes and the business community has been able to raise over $33,000.00 for the NHS athletic program. The athletic program has improved tremendously in the last few years due to all the hard work and dedication of our NHS boosters elected officials, committee members, general members and volunteers. There are many more things Boosters would like to do. That is why I am writing today…..WE NEED HELP.

Subject: Northwood Bets on Guys & Dolls for Spring Musical

Will Nathan Detroit find a place for “The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York” before Big Jule arrives? Will Miss Adelaide finally get Nathan to the alter after 14 years?  Will Sky get that Mission Doll Sgt. Sarah Brown to fly to Havana for DINNER? And most importantly, which is more popular—Mindy’s Cheesecake or Mindy’s Strudel?

The answers to these and other completely inconsequential questions will all be revealed when the Northwood Arts Education Department presents the 1950 Broadway classic, Guys & Dolls, March 25-27 at 7pm in Northwood’s Benjamin J. Lee Auditorium.

Subject: Two exchange students need homes until June

Two very nice girls need homes until June.  They are exchange students from Thailand and China currently attending Northwood High School.  They have been in the same home but can be separated if necessary.  They have their own spending money and health insurance.  The girls enjoy tennis, skating, movies, cooking and shopping.

They will be staying with me in Greensboro until homes are found and I am unable to drive them to and from Northwood daily.  I do not want to change their school this late in the year.  If interested or if you want more information, please contact me at pbarnette1@triad.rr.com

Subject: Don’t Miss Glenn Miller Orchestra coming to Northwood Feb 9

Next month, the Northwood High School Jazz Ensemble will compete in  the internationally recognized Disney Jazz Celebration in Orlando,  Florida. The festival will be judged by jazz giants from across the  globe, and Northwood student musicians will participate in jam  sessions and clinics with these musicians as well as receiving  ratings, comments and scores.

To prepare for the festival, the Jazz Ensemble will present a special  concert for the community on Tuesday, February 9, at 7 p.m. at  Northwood’s newly renovated Benjamin J. Lee Auditorium.

Subject: Northwood Needs

Hi all,

The good news is Northwood is growing with a new ARTS wing, new science labs, new concession stand/ bathroom @ entrance to gym and the best staff around!!  We can’t express our appreciation enough to the BOE/BOC for realizing the need and working hard to provide the space for NW growth.

The bad news is, there’s not funds to equip some of theses areas.  The Booster Club is working hard to
fill in gaps in funding this year but we find ourselves short.  We needed to help fund a new lawn mower and uniforms for various teams, not to mention helping out those athletes who are in need.

Help keep Chatham County green by recycling your old cell phones. If you have any old cell phones laying around that you no longer use, please consider dropping them off at one of the drop off sites listed below to be recycled. These phones will be sent to a recycling? company in Texas to be properly recycled according to EPA rules and guidelines or will be reconditioned and given to Battered Women shelters and US Military Soldiers overseas.

Come out to the Carolina Brewery this Thursday, May 14 at 7 pm for our final General Meeting of the year. Bring a friend, your students, everyone is welcome!

We’ll get organized for the May concerts at NHS in the coming weeks— our Choral Concert, the Dance Concerts, the Band Concert for Memorial Day, and the Senior Exhibit and Art Show; vote on a couple of opportunities for a little summer fundraising and  make plans for the upcoming year —a Gala Season celebrating our new arts wing renovations!
