Nothing against deer hunting, only where the loose bullets end up

Nothing against deer hunting, only where the loose bullet end up. For the last three years, in my back yard deck.

Someone is out there that hunts or fires in the same direction without thinking of where that bullet is going to land.

Remember what goes up…..must come down. They can travel a long distance.

Please be careful !!!!! I fear for my family to use the yard during deer season.

Chatham County has been working with the Town of Cary for many years to develop a Joint land use plan for the area east of Jordan lake near the border of Chatham and Wake counties. I’ve recently posted  an update on the progress on my website. There are also a couple of older posts explaining my rationale for the plan. For those interested in the latest article you can visit

In general, it is not a good idea to swim where there are many dead fish

In response to the sighting of dead fish at Jordan Lake (said to be between Ebenezer Beach and Poplar Point)

In general, it is not a good idea to swim where there are many dead fish. If they died from a toxin you don’t want to also be exposed to it . If, as is most likely in this case,  they died from lack of oxygen, associated with high temperatures and algae blooms,  you don’t want to be swimming with bacteria and other microbes associated with rotting fish.

Praise for Pittsboro Habitat for Humanity

From: Janice Britson
Subject: Habitat Praise

So sorry for negative post re: Habitat. Habitat offers regular and Americorps positions as stepping-stone positions for its construction positions.  It has been fortunate to have had outstanding young adults for years, and I would be willing to bet longevity has been above average among other Habitat
organizations.

Jack is leaving because his wife has a wonderful job opportunity.  One of the Americorps workers even said at a Jordan Lake Americorps celebration that she had learned so much from experienced volunteers, because when she came on board she hardly knew how to use a hammer.  It’s such a worthwhile organization where staff and volunteers learn from each other and receive joy from watching growth of young adults and working with them.

Four Local Environmental Groups Blast Chatham County Budget

Major environmental groups in Chatham County describe the new Chatham County budget as an environmental disaster. They believe the three newly elected commissioners – Brian Bock, Walter Petty and Pamela Stewart – are participating in a larger Tea Party inspired effort to dismantle local, state and national environmental protections first initiated in 1969 and 1972  when President Richard Nixon signed the National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act.

Jordan Stafford, a 2005 Northwood graduate, is in the middle of a 260 mile run from Asheville to Cary to raise awareness of autism and to raise funds for The Mariposa School for Children with Autism in Cary.  He began his run on May 7 in Asheville and will enter Chatham County today, May 17 via Hwy 64.  Jordan will spend Tuesday night with Dave Simmons and Lisa Reynolds at what formerly was the Laurel Ridge Bed and Breakfast.  On Wednesday the 18th, he will run from Siler City to Pittsboro, stopping at the Circle, probably around noon.  Later on Wednesday, around 5:00pm, Jordan and some of the Mariposa staff will gather at City Tap where Jordan will get a henna tatoo of The Mariposa School put on his back for the remainder of the run (provided City Tap has no objection to the tatoo).
