Subject: Seagulls on Jordan Lake
At least one reason the gulls come is to feed on the Threadfin Shad. These little fish can’t survive cold water, and can be seen just below the surface, obviously in trouble, or already dead. The gulls don’t have to work very hard to have a feast. The water temperature has been very low for quite a while this winter, and business must be good. A look at Wikepedia will fill you in on these fish.

Subject: Seagulls at Jordan Lake?
I don’t recall seeing so many seagulls in years past on Jordan Lake. Is this a normal occurrence or only happens every few years? Just curious…

Subject: Durham fails to hold the line on Jordan Lake
This is a very worrisome article from the Independent (read the whole article from the link http://localhost/gyrobase/Content?oid=271898) . There is a good map in this article showing the property. We in Chatham County need to be concerned about the effect of this development on our drinking water and express ourselves to the Durham Planners and our Chatham County Commissioners.

The Chatham Chatlist puts the rest of us blogs to shame. There is a beautiful thread on its Chatham County Online section. It asks simply “What Do You Like About Chatham County.” Here’s one response:

I really like living in Pittsboro. It’s not perfect but what it lacks I can bear easily without much angst. I do however, really miss going to the movies. Movies watched on cable channels and Netflicks aren’t the same as a date spent with my guy attending the cinema for plot twists and visual treats on the large screen.

Subject: Tourism and Taxes and McD’s
Enjoyed the post about us Chathamites needing tourism tax dollars. We certainly do, but we rarely get any. Jordan Lake only gets us Gas Tax and some snack taxes. Does Pittsboro even have a motel in which the boaters can stay ? Ferrington probably attracts more tourism tax dollars than the whole impact of the lake. With the new 1500′ set back from our major thoroughfares, we are really capping the tourism $ – no one will build that far back and if they did, no one would know they are there.
