Hunters will shoot dogs

Subject: Lost Dogs.

I just wanted to remind everyone with lost dogs that this is hunting season.

Most “hunters” that you talk to won’t admit to shooting a dog.

I promise you if a dog gets on the trail of their deer, they will shoot them.

I have lost 2 dogs in the past to either hunters, or dog fighters, idk ?

Most dogs don’t just leave there place of residence and food source.

So please if you love your animals keep them up.

Anybody looking for a broken down ole hunting buddy?

Subject: Late season ducks and geese

I haven’t duck or goose hunted in 30 years, but empty nest syndrome and some health issues have made me reprioritize my free time. I’m going to be looking for something to do after deer season… And hoping to find someone to show me the ropes of pond or field hunting for all the waterfowl I’m seeing around here.

Anybody looking for a broken down ole hunting buddy?

I’m a deer hunter because I’m in it for the groceries

I wholeheartedly agree with Billy Bob’s assessment of the deer issue here. I really like that some states have implemented an “earn-a-buck” program that requires harvesting one or more does before you can harvest a buck – I hope our Wildlife Commission gets with this program quickly. Personally, I only shoot does, as I eat what  I shoot and does tend to be better tasting than bucks, particularly buck in rut. Plus, I have never had a good recipe for antlers.

Deer meat is also healthier than beef for you

I saw a map a few years ago that showed the deer population in NC. In Chatham County there were around 35-50 deer per square mile at that time and it has only got worse since then. You can’t blame people moving into the country into the deer’s home range for most of the problem. I am an avid hunter and try my best to kill all the deer I can during hunting season.

Any Farmer would probably give permission to hunt coyotes on their land

All,
There have been a lot of people posting about Coyote sightings.  As at least one person has mentioned, Coyotes are very dangerous animals and if Coyotes are in your area and you have small children, please do not leave the children alone outside.

Coyotes are not native to NC.  They were introduced to NC to help keep the deer population down.  One reason you don’t see hardly any large deer is because the Coyote population has exploded.  Coyotes will track pregnant Doe deer and kill the Fawns when they are born. Coyotes have no natural enemy.  Coyotes are killing machines — that’s all they live for.

Deer are suffering from the hunger which their own overpopulation is causing

Dear Aurora,

It is clear that you speak from a genuine concern for the deer.  But what you seem to be unaware of is that the imbalance in the ecosystem that we humans have caused by eradicating all the predators that used to keep the deer population in check  – this imbalance is our fault, and we must accept responsibility for the consequences.

A plea for the deer who call Pittsboro home

Subject: A PLEA FOR THE DEER WHO CALL PITTSBORO HOME

I have just received a ridiculous ?piece of mail from the Town Manager about opening up the Town of Pittsboro to hunting.? Under the section Urban Archery Season in the notice sent to residents the Town Manager?mentions that this is in response to citizens concerns.? What I would like to know is what citizens.? It seems to me that this whole concept was?spearheaded by Commissioners? Brooks and Harrington and maybe some citizens who complained about their precious flower gardens.? It seems to me that this approval to have hunting in town was signed, sealed and delivered with no input from residents beforehand.? Very underhanded to say the?least!?

Oh, deer! Many thanks to Aaron Honeycutt

What an excellent posting by Aaron Honeycutt recently explaining the lives and habits of deer.  Since moving to the country in Chatham 11 years ago, I have thoroughly enjoyed observing the many deer that come into my yard, mostly due to the deer corn I leave them.  My nearby neighbor hunts them.  I was an avid bird hunter in my younger days, but have never cared to hunt deer.  I enjoy venison and have been to many a deer pickin’ in my home county of Nash.

You coined a very creative word: “Bamiization”

Thirty years ago I met my husband of 24 years.  He hunted almost anything edible and between my garden and his hunting we bought only the bare necessities from the stores.  At first I hated the fact that he killed the little Bambis.  Since I have lived in the very rural area of Chatham County I want every visible deer killed.  They destroy my decorative and edible
plants – all my gardens.  We have two herds on our 75 acre farm each of around 20 deer.
