Northwood High School Dance Team is proud to announce we will be having a 2011 Jr. Chargerette Dance Camp on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Northwood High School from 8:00am – 2:30p.m.  The cost is $30.00 per camper ages 5 – 15. 

Campers will enjoy a day of dance instruction, school spirit activites and plenty of laughs by the current 2010-2011 Dance Team members.  Paid registration includes a camp t-shirt and a morning snack and water/Gatorade always available.

Subject: Place for kids to hang out

I was taken by Carol Thurber’s plea for a place for school kids from Horton Middle School to congregate after school instead hanging out at the restaurants, etc.

She make so much sense and I do hope that the school, parents and community leaders will find a place for them as soon as possible. What is happening to the old PTA Thrift
place?  That seems like a great place for kids – plenty of room and a central location.  I don’t have children but I would be glad to offer to help in any way that I could.  Maybe I could
get my friends here in Fearrington Village to give financial assistance.

The Chatham YMCA will be offering “Wildcats After the Bell” at Horton Middle School beginning in August 2009.

This program will be offered Mon-Fri 2:45pm – 6:00pm.  The cost for the program will be $180.00/month for those that attend 4-5 days a week and $132.00 for those that attend 3 or less days a week.  Parents pay Sept – May.  Students attend Aug – June.  In regards to this summer, this age group can be accommodated at Perry Harrison and Moncure schools through the Chatham YMCA Camp Wannago camps.  The camps are theme based with lots of fun packed in each day.

I am a parent of a wonderful 13 year old who has aged out of any local after-school program and is too young to work. We live in such a rural area and I am finding myself unable to find a place for my son to go after school or spend the summer. I am aware of the fact that many of the Horton Middle School students frequently walk downtown after school to hang out at the local restaurants until their parents are able to pick them up after school. Along with many other concerns that I have about this, I am very concerned about the effect that this has on the local downtown restaurants and merchants.

I finally made the move to Chatham County and I’m lovin it so far.  I can’t wait to get settled in more and have all the work behind me.

In getting my 1930′s farmhouse remodeled I came across an excellent painter who does lots of work for the bigger contractors around central NC.  In fact he painted Siler City Elementary, Bonlee Middle School and Horton Middle School as a contracted job.  Martinez Painting, owner Diego Martinez who speaks excellent english and has a wonderful disposition to boot.
