Subject: Chatham hits 5th on pollution list under Chatham Coalition regime
The Chatham Coaltion Commissioners who preached about a green environment apparently failed miserably. Under the leadership of Tom Vanderbeck, George Lucier, Sally Kost and all, Chatham landed up being the 5th most pollted county in the state of North Carolina.
“According to data that industrial polluters must report to the Environmental Protection Agency in 2010, polluters released over 1 million pounds of toxic pollution into the air breathed by residents in each of twelve counties (listed in descending order by amount): Columbus (3,972,385 lbs.), New Hanover (3,056,955lbs.), Wayne (2,148,960 lbs.),

Subject: Sally Kost calls the Chatham Bookmobile a “Rolling Dinosaur”
Glad Mark Barroso had a chance to capture one of the last rides of the Chatham Bookmobile. A bookmobile, that county commissioner Sally Kost so unkindly referred to as a “rolling dinosaur” at the June 3, 2010 commissioners’ meeting.
During the 2010-11 budget process, the bookmobile was part of the consideration for discontinuance upon the opening of the new library. Chairman Sally Kost stated that as part of the budget recommendation that was presented to the Board in May, staff made the recommendation to take the resources that were used for the bookmobile and to use those to help offset some of the costs for the new Chatham Community library.

Hey, Jeffrey Starkweather -
See you are having problems with your numbers and facts again.

Subject: landfill
Landfill trash disposal SHOULD be by now as obsolete as hog lagoons. The technology may not be fully developed on a large enough scale yet, but much has been done, and surely will be economically more feasible and ecologically more sound by the time an old fashioned land fill can be sited and built. Landfill money will likely be wasted money poured into an obsolete system.

We keep hearing now that the Sustainable Communities director position was created to promote efficiencies and reduce redundancies in county government departments. How about we look at the minutes of some of the BOC meetings when the position was being created to see what the BOC was saying at the time?

It’s been a while since I last saw the Chatlist and what fun it is to have it back in my mailbox !
Just a couple of “thoughts”:
1) The stink in the new library could be coming from the inappropriately placed tiles on the fireplaces.
2) They are inappropriate because for some reason, the “artist” thought it appropriate to push her politics and beliefs onto the public with our money.
