What a hole we are digging ourselves if we let this referendum pass

I hadn’t thought much about the “mixed beverage referendum in Chatham County” vote until I saw this.

I like Chatham as it is.  We fight the big housing developers and the town of Cary to keep our county and towns the way they are.  We try to modernize without destroying what we love
about where we live.  Our towns are safe for the most part.  We don’t have to worry about who/what our kids see walking down the street. Reading that post made me realize what a hole we are digging ourselves if we let this referendum pass.  I wouldn’t mind having a Bahama Mama with supper ;*D…. but not at the cost of jeopardizing all we have fought to keep all these years.  I’ll just visit the ABC store and make my own.

Bogus “Gentleman’s Club” press release

From: “warthur2″
Subject: Bogus “Gentleman’s Club” press release

The “press release” in the April 30 chatlist about a “gentlemen’s club” opening in Chatham County if liquor-by-the-drink passes is bogus. First, there is no Tony’s Cabaret listed in Lodi, New Jersey, where the establishment is supposedly based. Second, the contact person listed is the name of a character in the Sopranos TV show. Third, the number on the press
release takes you to a sex chat line, not a press contact. Fourth, much of the language is drawn word for word from a press release issued in January about a “gentlemen’s club” to open in New York.

Gentlemen’s club coming to Chatham is not automatic

Subject: Gentlemen’s club

Anna Lyst: The press release you quote sounds almost like a put-on. But, even if it isn¹t and liquor by the drink is passed, this does not automatically mean that The Club will come to Chatham County.

It¹s not up to Silvio Dante and his investors whether The Club comes to Chatham. The NC ABC board conducts background checks of owners and managers of liquor-serving establishments, and zoning, land-use controls, design standards, and CITIZENS all have input.

Analyst Humor

I get it, AnnaLyst – it’s a joke.  Racist and sexist and lame,  but a joke nonetheless.

Nice Chatham County touch with the digs about “eco  friendly” and “hybrid Escalade,”  and even a jab at the Plenty (“Plenty of  Fun Money (house money)”).  Joke or no, I find it highly offensive.   Do you think everyone gets the joke?  Or do you think some people might  take this as legitimate and be scared about the election?  Do you think  that is the purpose of
this post?  Do you think many people will take the  time to call the number listed to find out it’s also bogus, or to figure out  that this company isn’t even real?

Bogus post about gentlemen’s club coming to Chatham County

Subject: bogus post

This is completely irresponsible.  There is no such place in existence.  The phone number is bogus – it is a sex line.  The coroporation does not exist. Do you check out any posts?  This one was so clearly false, it sticks out like a sore thumb.  Didn’t you recognize that?  Couldn’t you take a second to check it out?  A retraction should be made.  This is a clear attempt by someone to hijack the legitimate election debate with insane scare tactics.

A New All-time Low

Subject: A New All-time Low

The latest low point (a new all-time low?) for meaningful political discourse in Chatham County has been reached.

The mock post from a fear-monger named “Ana-Lyst” containing a double entendre-filled press release about a gentlemen’s club locating in Chatham County, complete with a telephone number to a sex line was 100% cynical. I have no doubt that when the Mixed Beverage Referendum passes a lot of things are going to change but I think it’ll generally be for the better.
