In recognition of Women’s History Month, ChathamArts Sustainable Cinema Series presents “Show Up, Speak Out: The Public Life of Betty Ann Knudsen” a documentary film about a North Carolina woman who made and changed history in our state.

Grassroots Grants from ChathamArts

Since 2000, ChathamArts has granted over $76,000 to other local non-profit organizations through our annual Grassroots Arts Grant process. Applications for the 2011 grants are due May 6th.

Any non-profit organization offering Chatham County community-based arts programs or arts events taking place in Chatham County are welcome to apply.

The Grassroots Arts program is made possible by the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, who believe that a great nation deserves great art.

The “Race in NC: Justice and Reconciliation Film Forum,” is a continuation
of the ChathamArts Sustainable Cinema Series, designed to address African
American history, identity, culture, and social justice and racial
reconciliation within the context of storytelling and documentary film. The
two-day forum includes educational outreach, filmmaker question-and-answer,
and panel discussion. Five films, all related to African American life in
North Carolina, will be shown during Black History Month. This project is
made possible by a grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council, a
statewide nonprofit and affiliate of the National Endowment for the
Humanities.
