This year, The Abundance Foundation’s Chatham County Chef Challenge is pleased to announce a new partnership with a local farm. Chester Pilson, of C.V. Pilson Farm in Moore County, is providing over 2 tons of local sweet potatoes for this year’s Chef Challenge. Pilson’s sweet potatoes are GAP-certified, a certification that farms must attain in order to source produce to schools and other institutions.

Connie,
Thanks for asking about volunteer opportunities!  Chatham County is blessed with amazing non-profits.

We focus on education around sustainability, particularly local food, local economy and renewable energy.  We have a DIY Sustainability Workshop Series in which we need (1) volunteer to assist the Instructors per workshop.

We have a group that is kicking of the 2nd Chatham County Schools Chef Challenge in the 17 schools/8000 kids and will need help getting the word out and with some of the logistics.

Thank you for the additional insights. Reminds me of the hypocriticaly NCAA bureaucrats living high off the student athletes at universities around the country. Your insight certainly refocuses my observations on the fraudulent aspects of this deal.

Subject: State Auditor’s accusation of fraud by Chatham County

I think this is a fascinating story. When I first heard it this seemed like a great “catch” by an astute State Auditor and it may be fraud of the first order against the taxpayer of North Carolina, of which I am one. On second reading, at least for this one individual, he had worked for 26 years planning toward a 30 year retirement benefit package.

Subject: Chatlist is extremely laborious to sift through

This Chatlist is so cluttered that I find it extremely laborious to sift through. I contacted your web designer and told them the same thing.

I would suggest organizing it according to area and/or topic like the newspaper want ads. Unfortunately, with this web page, you have to scroll through everything to get where you might like to read unless it could be set up with links to topics that you could click on and then be taken to that spot. Even online grocery store ads do that.

The cafeterias at all of the Chatham County Schools are run by the Child Nutrition department of CCS, following the federal Child Nutrition Program guidelines. The Child Nutrition Director is Debbie McKenzie debbiemckenzie@chatham.k12.nc.us , but the position is also listed on the employment page, so I’m not sure if she is still there. She reports to Susan Little, sjlittle@chatham.k12.nc.us . You can reach either of them through the central office main phone number, 542-3626.
