It is sad to see that the Chatham Coalition and Pittsboro Together’s candidate for Pttsboro mayor thinks your child needs to pass on a meal to pay for the Pittsboro magic bus.

On the Chatham Online Bulletin Board at http://chatham-county-nc.com/bulletinboard/index.php/topic,14756.15.html
Randy Voller states that “it would appear that a valuable piece of transit infrastructure was purchased for less than a “happy meal”.”

Natives, newcomers spar over county
BY BETH VELLIQUETTE : The Herald-Sun

Native vs. newcomer. Local vs. outsider.

In Chatham County, there’s a group of people who have been writing online on the Chatham Chatlist who have been going round and round for nearly a month about whether natives have a special claim to the county, if newcomers are ruining it and who has the right to call it “home.”

Pittsboro/Chapel Hill Bus Service

Getting around in Chatham County without a car is difficult. With little employment to anchor Pittsboro residents to their home turf, folks scatter in all directions every morning to earn their daily bread. About 13% of the workforce at UNC and UNC Hospital travel the 15-501 corridor to reach Chapel Hill. Some carpool, but most jump into their shiny metal boxes solo and inefficiently burn hydrocarbons  to get to work. But a ticket to ride may soon replace the solitary commute.

DRT Press is Chatham County’s own micropress, specializing in books for children and families. Our first two books were picture books about adoption, but it’s our most recent book that should be of interest to anyone who hangs out with children in Chatham county: The Big Fun Guide to Tar Heel Country: 135+ Activities for Families in Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough, Pittsboro, and Points in Between! by Erin Donoghue Baldwin, a Carrboro mom and Chapel Hill native.

I have no moral or religious objections to Liquor by the Drink

Regarding liquor by the drink:

I have no moral or religious objections to LBTD but am adamently opposed to sprawl, especially sprawl perpetuated by giant big box corporations.

Jonathan Davis has a valid point regarding the influx of chains (first the restaurants, then everyone else will follow). For an example just drive up to that hellish stretch of 15-501 between Chapel Hill and Durham. Not my idea of smart urban planning-it is really just a race to see how much retail space (did we really need Indigo Corner at that intersection too?) can be packed into one ugly, crowded stretch of road.

Chatham Studio Tour highlights artist’s story

From: Forrest Greenslade
Subject: Tour time

Behind every piece of art at the Chatham Studio Tour there is an artist’s story

Roger Person will never forget the day in 1990, when he was standing on a ladder cutting a limb from a large tree. The branch released, knocking him from the ladder resulting in a crippling spinal cord injury. In that instant, this physically active engineer and adventurer was fated to life in a wheel chair. That instant also was the beginning of the career of an important artist (http://persontopersonart.com).
