What organization or government entity is coordinating this survey

What organization or government entity is coordinating this survey and  what will it be used for?  Despite your claims of non-partisanship, it  sure sounds like you are interested in a specific outcome, which will  quite undermine the validity of the survey results.  Reeks of junk  science and political spin.

Survey of Chatham Taxpayers is very one sided

Subject: Survey of Chatham Taxpayers

While I applaud anyone who asks for accountability in government, I have to comment on Tom Glendinning’s survey. I took the survey, and found it to be very one sided, especially the last question. An unbiased survey would have included more boxes for “need more information”.

Preposterous amount of Chatham folks who lose track of their dearly beloved dogs

Hi Ms. Shook,

I see those dogs every day going to work. It drives me crazy to see the same dogs running loose everyday.  I am not sure what is ironic about the “Volunteer Coordinator part though?” Could you elaborate? The title was given to me to help collect volunteers for the group.  Do you know what the Coalition to Unchain Dogs is about? Have you gone to the website www.unchaindogs.org to check it out? Do you know we build fences for dogs? These fences are built by volunteers who take time out of thier schedules to help a dog in need. Some folk volunteer materials and other things such as dog houses, collars and toys. I understand not everyone will agree with the group and we all have our own opinions on it. But for me I would like to understand the other opinions. So please let me know.

AT&T landline billing

February 3rd, 2010 · No Comments

From: Sarah Carr
Subject: AT&T landline billing

We’ve had AT&T /BellSouth at our home since we moved here in August.  While the first 2 bills were understandably wacky because of new installation, prorated charges, etc, they have been wrong since October.  I pay for unlimited long distance, yet every month, I get charged for long distance calls.  So, I spend 30 minutes on the phone with them to correct the problem.  They always credit the account, but have not done anything more, saying only that it’s a “known issue” and they’re working on it.  It takes them 4 months to fix this???  Not to mention that it’s not like they are calling me to notify me that they’re overcharging me….
So, is anyone else having this problem with AT&T/BellSouth?  Check your bills if you’re not sure.

Getting rid of elaegnus

From: Matthew Arnsberger
Subject: re: getting rid of elaegnus?

Two kinds of Eleagnus are a problem in the Southeast – Eleagnus pungens ( Silverberry, is an evergreen, thorny eleagnus) and Eleagnus umbellata (Autumn Olive, is a deciduous, less thorny eleagnus). They are quite prevalent in the woods this time of the year when many native plants have dropped their leaves.

Mass transit

From: Laura Young
Subject: mass transit

Whenever a debate about funding mass transit comes up, there are many who do not want to spend the money because the numbers do not justify the expense.  I would hope that we consider the monetary cost of not having a mass transit system.  In addition to previously mentioned factors-traffic, the environment, global warming pollution..,  what did it cost the taxpayers to widen 15-501 between Pittsboro and Chapel Hill?  What was the cost to the people who live on the 15-501 corridor and lost their home or a part of their homeplace and its value because of the widening.  The cost of doing nothing is not always nothing.

Pittsboro Bus

From: Stephanie Peterson
Subject: Pittsboro Bus

I would like to thank Randy Voller, Chatham County Commissioners, Chapel Hill Transit, and everyone else responsible for the Pittsboro bus to Chapel Hill.  I ride this bus every day and am happy to say that the 7:15 bus is about half full every morning (a far cry from the 4 riders during the route’s first week in August).

A new bus route needs time to get the kinks out, so please be patient while the schedule and the number of buses is organized.  If you would like to ride the bus but the current schedule doesn’t fit your own, let Chapel Hill Transit know at:

The Bus

Subject: The Bus

I am lovin all the bus comments – pro and con.  Stimulating, entertaining, and constructive conversation is my goal.

Randy (not Voller), thanks for asking about my son’s racing career (although, you sly thing, you claimed you are not interested in how we spend our time).  Yes, my son races “round track” for a living.  Yes, that requires gas, oil, etc., and I suppose some folks (non-fans, I’m sure) consider it an “antiquated quaint Southern tradition” although it is a multi-billion $$ industry growing in popularity every year.  Cooking with fat back could be considered “antiquated quaint Southern tradition” too – but I have pintos on the stove as I’m writing this.  Just call me old fashioned.
