I was thrilled to collaborate with the staff at the North Carolina Botanical Garden to create a new pollinator exhibit: Behold the Humble Pollinators. The exhibit highlights Cooperative Extension’s demonstration pollinator garden at Chatham Mills.

You can see the NCBG’s press release about the exhibit at http://bit.ly/9qX3tZ

DOT presentation on the Superstreet concept to the planning board was complete

August 22nd, 2010 · No Comments

Date: Sun, 25 Jul 2010 17:10:52 -0500
From: Tom Glendinning
Subject: US64 Corridor Improvements

The DOT presentation on the Superstreet concept to the planning board was complete. The timeline is twenty to thirty years for implementation of Superstreet, with long range option to change to a limited access highway, like US 421 to Greensboro. A necessary and needed improvement.

The NCDOT has always been proactive in soliciting public input. Thorough traffic counts are done continuously. For the Pittsboro by-pass project, meetings were held years in advance. One of our former commissioners sat on the highway project board at DOT. What a great highway and relief for Pittsboro traffic it has been. Newcomers do not realize that around half the traffic during weekdays and nights was heavy trucks negotiating the circle, limited to travelling through Pittsboro.

Subject: Chatham Coalition kicks off it’s “Campaign of Hate”

I was forwarded the following campaign fundraising email from John Hammond, the vice-chairman of the Chatham Coalition PAC.

I have never gotten an email from a special interest group before.

This certainly makes for some very interesting reading. Tells you a lot about where the Chatham Coalition Political Action Committee is coming from, doesn’t it?

They surely won’t be getting any money from me.

Tom

From: Mary Donna Pond
Subject: Hygiene Kits for Disaster Assistance

In light of the recent earthquakes in Haiti and Chile, Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church will join churches across America to create Gift of the Heart hygiene kits.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, an emergency and refugee program of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., is working with Church World Service to provide these needed essentials. Kits are kept on hand to enable quick movement of the supplies in the wake of a national or international crisis.  Current supplies have been depleted. The national group creates baby, cleaning and school supplies kits as well.

What organization or government entity is coordinating this survey

From: Victor D’Amato
Subject: Re: Chatham Chatlist #3662

What organization or government entity is coordinating this survey and  what will it be used for?  Despite your claims of non-partisanship, it  sure sounds like you are interested in a specific outcome, which will  quite undermine the validity of the survey results.  Reeks of junk  science and political spin.

Survey of Chatham Taxpayers is very one sided

From: Janet Place
Subject: Survey of Chatham Taxpayers
