Hi all. This is a reminder to live stream our new arts talk show on WCOM from 4 – 5 pm today: www.wcomfm.org. I’ll be interviewing Christiane Voisin, Bart Hubbard, and Paul Mihas about where food factors into their sense of identity and how they learned to get creative in the kitchen.

Next Tuesday, October 20th from 4 – 5 pm: Interview with filmmaker Todd Tinkham and actress, Jennifer Evans about their new indie, “Southland of the Heart.” I just watched the rough cut of what’s been shot, and it was FANTASTIC. They are going to sweep some serious festival awards. And those of you who know me know that I’m a tough critic when it comes to film. So, I’m not just talking smack here.

“Inside the Artist’s Studio” runs every Tuesday, 4 – 5 pm on WCOM 103.5 FM. Again, live stream it at www.wcomfm.org.

When asked what payoff we might see from the Pittsboro Express Randy Voller responded -

I would imagine in no particular order:

Enhanced property values
Wage increases
Lower unemployment
More workers covered by insurance (better jobs)
Greater velocity of capital in the local market (multiplier effect)
Increased sales tax revenue
Better air quality
New businesses created in Pittsboro because we have transit
Greater demand on properties because we have a link to UNC
Less cars on the road
Less need to widen 15-501 (The initial widening cost over fifty million dollars, perhaps more.)
Better productivity
Opportunities to link to Sanford, Raleigh and Siler City
Greater opportunities for mobility
Enhanced prestige for the Town and County (goodwill)
Less need more asphalt = better water quality
More opportunities to attract the “creative class” and “entrepreneurs”
Less stress

Certainly not comprehensive, but a start.

Wow! Delusions of grandeur. $360,000 in taxpayer money is being spent on this “magic” bus and he can’t even get more than a handful or two of riders on this thing.

With all the discussions about the $353,000 Pittsboro Express bus on
the Chatham Online Bulletin Board and the ongoing tinkling contest
between several BBS members I decided to ride down to the Pittsboro
Lowes parking lot on Friday morning and see for myself how many folks
were on the bus.

Subject: why are gas prices higher in Pittsboro and Northern Chatham??

In my opinion it is because the dealers CAN charge more, not because it’s necessary. I try to find the cheapest gas I can find when I’m out and about and do NOT purchase it where I live in Northern Chatham if at all possible. If all of us would do the same, maybe we could get the prices to come down through lack of sales.

I am writing to the chatlist to send a thank you to the schools of Perry Harrison and Northwood highschool. Thank you to the wonderful teachers and staff that I have known at Perry Harrison since there doors first opened.

I had two daughters go through Perry Harrison and a third will be finished her years in three days at Perry Harrison.? It is an excellent school with many wonderful teachers who are happy to be there and teach our children, the staff has been very helpful and my girls and I will miss everyone. I had one daughter graduate from Northwood and another finishing her sophmore year this year. My two girls will be heading to Carrborro where there dad will be living and finishing up school there. Subject: Is Plenty still in use elsewhere?

As I am reading all this brouhaha on Plenty I am wondering – is still used in Orange County? And with how much success?

I wonder if my experience with local currency is typical. When I first heard of Plenty many years ago, it sounded like fun and I used it for a few months [exclusively at the only place I knew would take it then- Weaver Street].

After the novelty wore off, I stopped using it. It was like those coupons that sit in your wallet until you connect up with the appropriate place to use them, so having regular currency took precedence.
