Northwood ended their season tonight at Carrboro 6-0. A combination of an average performance on our part and a good Carrboro squad equaled a long night for the Chargers.

The team, coaches, managers and parents would like to wish our seniors, Anna, Annie and Sara the very best luck in their adventures after graduation. We will miss you more than you know. Thanks for four years of service and dedication to the Northwood Soccer program.

The team would also like to thank the parents for all their support, especially with the team meals every game!

 The team finishes at 15-7, the elite eight and a #7 state ranking.

Just made an interesting discovery with Thunderbird email client. When
reading the Chatlist (when will there be one for Orange County where it
is much needed?) I highlighted the above article (ready to cut and
paste) then hit the reply button and voila’, the text and header of
Roger’s timely message appeared in my reply exactly as seen above. Neat.

Yes, Roger, the object is to beat us down with mind-numbing propaganda,
exhorting us to “get with the program”, polarize and divide and conquer
or bore us to tears. Some loyal Chathamite Republicans, having earned
the right to call themselves “conservatives”, years ago conswerved and
conspired to get The Bunky elected to the CC BoCC so he could open the
floodgates to exploitation of Chatham’s great reserves of open land for
the benefit of the real estate and development industries and thus
“reduce the tax burden on Chatham citizens”. Some, just ahead of the
election, switched political party affiliation to Democrat so they could
assist The Bunkey achieve his political aspirations, afterward switching
back to the GOP. Well, you know the rest. How many thousands of Chatham
acres were clearcut in preparation for the building boom that never came?

I don’t live in Chatham but am only a few miles from the county line.
My great great Grandfather, great Grandfather, Grandfather and Father
were all from Chatham. With the control my Grandfather had over what
development would be allowed in Pittsboro and some of Chatham, Bunkey
would not have gotten to first base under his watchful eye. All that
squandered land would still be growing crops, trees, weeds and wildlife,
just as it had for hundreds of years before.

When asked what payoff we might see from the Pittsboro Express Randy Voller responded -

I would imagine in no particular order:

Enhanced property values
Wage increases
Lower unemployment
More workers covered by insurance (better jobs)
Greater velocity of capital in the local market (multiplier effect)
Increased sales tax revenue
Better air quality
New businesses created in Pittsboro because we have transit
Greater demand on properties because we have a link to UNC
Less cars on the road
Less need to widen 15-501 (The initial widening cost over fifty million dollars, perhaps more.)
Better productivity
Opportunities to link to Sanford, Raleigh and Siler City
Greater opportunities for mobility
Enhanced prestige for the Town and County (goodwill)
Less need more asphalt = better water quality
More opportunities to attract the “creative class” and “entrepreneurs”
Less stress

Certainly not comprehensive, but a start.

Wow! Delusions of grandeur. $360,000 in taxpayer money is being spent on this “magic” bus and he can’t even get more than a handful or two of riders on this thing.

With all the discussions about the $353,000 Pittsboro Express bus on
the Chatham Online Bulletin Board and the ongoing tinkling contest
between several BBS members I decided to ride down to the Pittsboro
Lowes parking lot on Friday morning and see for myself how many folks
were on the bus.

Subject: why are gas prices higher in Pittsboro and Northern Chatham??

In my opinion it is because the dealers CAN charge more, not because it’s necessary. I try to find the cheapest gas I can find when I’m out and about and do NOT purchase it where I live in Northern Chatham if at all possible. If all of us would do the same, maybe we could get the prices to come down through lack of sales.
