Friday night at the Bynum General Store is the place to be from now until the end of August. Many thanks to *The Zinc Kings* for their performance last week. This week, we have *Jule Brown* will bring their modern version of Delta and Chicago blues to the outdoor stage complete with rock, soul, jazz and roots elements thrown in.. As always, there will be food vendors on hand to supply a tasty treat and a cool beverage.

Next up. . . *Zambamboogee* (June 1st). Zambamboogee is a five-piece band that performs originals and covers from many styles of dance music. All members have performed in the Triangle music scene in solo and band settings for years.

The Friday Night Music Series runs from May 4 through the end of August from 7 pm to 9 pm every Friday night. Although tickets aren’t required, we pass the hat and encourage a $5 to $7 donation to compensate the performers. Friday night at the Bynum General Store is the place to be from now until the end of August. Many thanks to *Mipso Trio* for helping us kickstart the Bynum Front Porch Friday Night Music Series last week. This week, *Squier Red & The Blues Band* brings their brand of the blues to the outdoor stage. As always, there will be food vendors on hand to supply a tasty treat and a cool beverage.

Next up. . . *The Zinc Kings* (May 18th) will be bringing their Piedmont blues to Bynum.

The 11th Annual ClydeFEST Kids Carnival of Folk Art Fun was a tremendous success thanks to work on the part of dozens of volunteers. Attendees numbered just under a thousand and came from as far away as Australia! A wonderful new addition this year was the Clyde Jones Camp Scholarships that were awarded to 5 creative young people from Bynum and a new game called Bubble Trouble. In addition to the much-coveted Clyde Critters won via raffle and auction, ClydeFEST attendees and volunteers won raffle prizes from: Advanced Auto; Carolina Brewery; Doug’s Auto; Glazed Expectations; Mama Dip’s; Marbles Museum; Museum of Life and Science; New Horizons; Pittsboro Auto Care; Siler City Country Club; Something Else; Starlight Mead; Sullivan’s Music; Townsend Bertram; UnWined, and YMCA…and a big ol’ shout out of gratitude to our local Lowe’s Home Store in Pittsboro that provided plywood (for Critterville!) and water.

Bynum Front Porch Bingo is Back on Saturday, Feb 4

Mark your calendars – Bynum Front Porch Bingo is Back Saturday Feb 4th – 7pm.

Bynum Front Porch is bringing bingo again, once a month, first Saturdays through April! Join the fun on the first Saturday of every month (coming up this February 4th at 7 pm) for BFP Bingo. Win prizes or cash with our 50/50 games. Each game is $1 for 3 cards and you can play as many $1 cards as you wish. There will be 5 prize games (each prize worth at least $10), then a 50/50 game. This game costs $5 and the winner takes half the pot (hence 50/50). We’ll follow with 5 more prize games and a final 50/50 game to end the night and wrap things up at around 9 pm.

This is a great opportunity to gather with your friends and neighbors and get into some bingo action. Please tell your friends to come over and join in the evening activity. It’ll be huge fun and you’ll help support the programs, operation and educational grants that Bynum Front Porch ( www.bynumfrontporch.org) provides. November 19 workday at the Bynum General Store

Subject: November workday at the Bynum General Store

Dear friends of Bynum Front Porch,

Saturday, November 19, 9am to 12noon is our next workday at the Bynum General Store. Our goals are to paint the walls that enclose the heater closet (everyone is tired of looking at that un-finished pressboard), install a real hinged cover for the ceiling exhaust fan opening, paint the window frame around the AC unit, paint the walls around the bathroom entrance, install new siding under the bathroom window, trim trees in the parking area, and of course general cleaning and trash pick-up.

So, there’s something for everyone to do – indoors, outside, any skill level. Be sure to mark it on the calendar. Even if you can’t help out on the 19th, you can show your support by donating snacks and drinks for the volunteers.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Subject: Thanks for decorations!

We were happy to move into our place in time to have a few years of the pumpkins on Chicken Bridge before they built the new bridge and tore down the old one in the 80′s. It is fun to see at least a few still put up there each year.

Now we love venturing to the home on Hawfields Drive for their wonderful Halloween decorations each year and take friends with us. We really look forward to seeing what new theme has been cooked up and this year we enjoyed the French horrors (with head coming out of a toilet, “wine” going down a skeleton’s throat and the blood and gore all over)! I think my favorite though was the State Fair put on a few years back. We really appreciate the time, energy and creativity it takes.

Also, thanks to the folks who put up the interestingly cut pumpkins at Oak Hill Rd. and Mann’s Chapel Rd. The ship one was amazing as were the really intricate ones (which we couldn’t figure out)!

We missed not having the bleacher ones on River Road though. Maybe next year?

Didn’t make it to Bynum Bridge this year. Was it as spectacular as usual?

Thursday is Family Fun Night from 6:30 to 7:30 at the Bynum General Store. This week we will be doing experiments with color and light in Lighten Up!Â Suggested ages 3-10.

Saturday from 2:30-3:30 is a Pirate Party and we will learn about oceans as well as have some treasure hunting fun.Â Suggested ages are 3-10.Â We will also have craft and activity books for sale after the program on Saturday.

Can’t say how pleased I am that Doug Elliot is coming down from the hills to little ‘ole Bynum. Just spent some time with him at the Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain. This is a real treat, and family friendly. Would be nice if his talented (college) son would be able to come along…..Highly recommended….

I’m sure Tyris Jones is excellent too….just never had the pleasure.

Subject: Bynum Front Porch Three-Month Storytelling Series Continues October 22nd

Please join us for an evening of storytelling at the Bynum General Store on Saturday, October 22nd at 6:30 pm. You will have the opportunity to hear a variety of storytelling styles and stories from some of the area’s finest!

This evening features Tyris Jones and Doug Elliott.

Doug’s stories derive from his unique lifestyle as well as his deep interest in plants, animals and people. Doug’s stories explore and celebrate the rich diversity of that special human connection to nature. His programs are textured by his use of traditional lore, regional dialects and accents, and enhanced by his soulful harmonica playing. Tyris is a native of Laurinburg and holds a BA in Theatre Arts from North Carolina Central University. Jones was professionally trained in Lighting Design at Crossroads Theatre Company at which he was employed when they became the only African American Theatre to receive a Tony Award for outstanding regional theatre. Jones has also traveled and worked throughout the US and Europe as an independent lighting designer for hip hop artist Common, the Like Water For Chocolate tour and other staged plays. Tyris is known for his lively tales that captivate audiences of all ages.

Please come join us for a fun-filled evening. As always, there is no admission price but we do pass the hat for donations to bring these wonderful storytellers to our Bynum Front Porch Stage.
