Subject: A response to defend our small Chatham business
Mr. Ismay,
I want to thank you for following us as closely as you have since you have a lot of information about where we are, how long we are there, what our vehicle looks like, our prices, etc. etc. but…I am not going to keep defending myself on this Chatlist as if I am doing something illegal. I know I will have folks that don’t like what we are doing and I am okay with it. The information you provided is not accurate so let me take the time to address your statements:

Subject: phony posting
Unfortunately, I need to weigh in and disagree that we are all sophisticated enough to tease truth from fiction when an undeclared hoax post makes the listand it is NOT April Fools Day.
Many people choose to skim the chatlist most of the time rather than skip it. I do miss some days – but most get a quick look.
I my case, “skim” means that I may not read closely enough to catch subtleties and I don’t read every post. So I especially appreciate topic lines that clearly describe the message contents.

Subject: Opposition to Liquor By The Drink
In response to “Mr.” Voller’s not-so-subtle attack on the opposition to bringing Liquor by the drink to Chatham County, shame on you! It is within our rights as citizens of the United States of America to free speech, at least the last time I read the Constitution it was. Just as the “vote yes” group has been able to put their signs up, conduct their support marches, and spread blatant untruths concerning the “generation of revenue”. What I believe is appalling, is the fact that the “yes” group is so threatened by the “no” group that they have actually stooped so low as to steal the “no” signs. Please, children, let’s get out of the sandbox and act like adults for once.

Re: Non-existant Gentlemens Club
Although deserving points for creative writing, the author of this “Press Release” is obviously using a ridiculous idea to lend credence to the No LBD movement by tapping into public fears on MANY different levels.
Only the truly gullible will be fooled by this transparent attempt to turn the vote by using this bizarre platform. Does anyone else remember “Weapons of Mass Destruction”?

Subject: Gentlemen’s club
Anna Lyst: The press release you quote sounds almost like a put-on. But, even if it isn¹t and liquor by the drink is passed, this does not automatically mean that The Club will come to Chatham County.
It¹s not up to Silvio Dante and his investors whether The Club comes to Chatham. The NC ABC board conducts background checks of owners and managers of liquor-serving establishments, and zoning, land-use controls, design standards, and CITIZENS all have input.

Subject: Anti-Capitalist Chatham Residents Shoot Selves In Collective Feet
Mixed beverage/liquor by the drink/”LBD” or whatever other name you call it…no one’s making you drink ‘em. The topic has been hashed out numerous times on the Chatlist as well as the Chatham message board numerous times and the primary arguments being made against it have been refuted by many common sense counterpoints from many local residents
that no one has yet managed to successfully dispute, such as how drinking five minutes from home versus fifty endangers less people and how current laws don’t prevent me or you from making mixed drinks during get-togethers at our homes and getting plastered locally anyway.

Subject: traffic circle danger
I’m very glad this issue is coming to notice on the Chatlist. I have often thought i wanted to speak about it and now is my chance……….
The place i feel the most afraid is in front of the General Store Cafe. I often think as cars, sometimes delivery trucks and even and occasional 18 wheeler comes sling shotting out of the circle on to West ST (heading West) that i am *amazed* that someone has not been seriously hurt or killed as a result. I have seen trucks going what seems to me to be 35 or 40 mph around that corner .
