The owners have recently re-painted, they’re working to make a go of it for the community and surrounding area.  The owner’s have been great in opening when school is out.

Lots of volunteers needed for short term commitment ( 4 hours or less) -

The 3rd Annual Shamrock Run for Hope, hosted by the Pittsboro Relay for Life is scheduled for March 17, 2012. This 5K & 10K run in Pittsboro is followed by a breakfast for participants (included in registration, all others for $5).

The race starts at 8AM, post race activities including cleanup are usually complete by 11:30 AM. Some of the opportunities listed below need to happen several days before or a couple hours before the actual start time. If you see something that interests you, or if you need more information please contact me at this email address: 3rdshamrockrun@gmail.com

To be successful we rely on volunteers to:

  – set up/take down the course markers
  – provide childcare during the run
  – provide kids activities
  – register participants
  – be stationed at all intersections to provide direction to runners & traffic
  – cook breakfast
  – serve breakfast
  – setup / clean up the dining area
  – provide music, song or other fun entertainment along the course
  – flyer & brochure distribution

Will this list also be promoted on the chatlist and the BBS?  I rarely ever get onto any county websites, don’t often see flyers, I’m usually got other things on my mind when in stores where flyers are posted, and while I do try to get to the occasional event, like First Sunday, etc, I often can not due to other engagements…

So if you could also post that list, or at least links to that list here on the Chatlist and over on the BBS, I would certainly appreciate it

Just to get everyone on the same page, I closed the bowling alley a few weeks ago.  I received  so many emails from individuals regarding the closing that I talked with my partners and we decided that somehow we had to give it one more try.  I apprieciate each one of the concerned citiziens that requested we try to keep the alleys open and ask each of you to be my advertisers in the area to get the patronage that it is going to require to keeps these lanes rolling.  We are going to get that restaurant in here, and have already installed a few laser lights for mid-night bowling. Somehow this place is going to last!!!

Subject: And yet another cycling accident near Jordan Lake

Having just caught up with the news of the recent hit and run incident in North Chatham County in the Raleigh paper, where comments were abundant on both sides of the issue of cyclists on the roads, it is perhaps time to remind those cycling on the roads around Jordan Lake that certain risks must be accepted in this sport, just as risks have to be accepted when skiing down a mountain.  There are many boat trailers traversing these roads and many drivers have no idea whether their boat trailer tires are on the road or not.  The sun is going down in the afternoons, often creating glares on the windows of motorists when many are cycling and not clearly seen.

While many cyclists are reducing their risks by riding single file on the side of the road, others with apparent reading disabilities are ignoring Stop signs and No Parking signs and/or causing accidents by being an unexpected distraction on the road, like a deer darting across the road.  I couldn’t help but be amused by one commentor who thought those in bike rallys should have a parade permit and a police escort.  While bike rallys offer more to the sport, it is probably only a matter of time until someone in a hurry or who is under the influence of some drug, barrels into one of these bike rally groups.  Of course, it is going to be the fault of the motorist when that happens, but does it really matter if you’re in the ground or laying in traction for months or years following?  Would there even be enough insurance to cover several hurt or killed?

The American Tobacco Trail and many lightly used roads in Chatham County offer much less risks to the cyclist than many of the main roads I have observed cyclists and rally bikers using.  Would you go jogging down the middle of the road?  Would people think you were impaired if you did?  How much slower than normal traffic does one have to go before they endanger themselves or others on the road?

Dear Residents of Chatham & Local Communities,

I am writing this to make sure that I relay how much appreciation and fun I and my partners have had serving this community over the past year.  We knew that it would be difficult to rebuild the patronage back to the bowling alleys after the previous owner, but were hopeful, not to mention the current economic conditions.  When we started the alleys we planned on using our extra capital to start a resturant in Sportsmans Lanes, however we found out once we restored power here that absolutely none of the lanes
equipment nor scoring systems work. 

We utilized our capitol to rebuild the system and planned on continuiing the resturant with revenues generated from the lanes.  Our mission at Sportsman Lanes was to provide a safe, fun, & inexpensive environment for the citizens of siler as well as the surrounding counties.  We believed that no family should have to spend a 1/3 to a 1/4 of their paycheck to spend one night of enjoyment with there family.  We kept our prices at 1984 pricing and pool tables at $.50 to allow young adults with limited cash to have enjoyment here rather then being roaming Walmart or troubled areas they should never be apart of. 

We worked with the philosophy that no who enters our establishment whether be it 5 years old or 85 years old recieves and most importantly gives the same amount of respect to each and everyone they interact with at the bowling alleys, regardless of age, gender, race.  It is a philosophy that we feel has created a wonderful environment for both us and the customers.  We were able to provide over 187 birthday parties, numerous youth groups, various school and daycares with enjoyment at the lanes.  One group that touched
us especially is the special education class and Jordan Mathew and the pure enjoyment that display when hitting one or ten pins, never worried about the score just the fun.

We have had an extremely difficult time this past summer and are regrettably falling behind.  I am not ready to give up, but wanted to inform those that have visited us  here how much we do appreciate you, and to all the young adults that came just to shoot a game or two and just hang out and share some time with us.  All of you are truley wonderful and my partners and I are blessed for have knowing each of you.  This is not a farewell statement.  I do want to make sure each of you know how much you are apprectiated.  However if things don’t pick up please know we have fought it to the end.  Please come by and join in the fun so we can
hopefully keep the house open.

Hello Everyone! For those of you who made it out to our 1st event at the Palomino Sport Arena this past Friday, we hope you enjoyed the show! We are excited to bring this every Friday night event to the community and hope you’ll join us this Friday for a evening of bull riding & barrel racing action and lots of family fun at a affordable price!

The door opens at 6pm and the show starts at 8pm, Admission is $8.00 ages 11 yrs and over, $4 ages 6-10 yrs and 5 & Under Free! The arena address is 12365 Hwy 421 Goldston, NC located between Siler Sity & Sanford. The arena owners will provide after show entertainment each week from local bands in the area as

The Silk Hope Fire Department turkey shoot has begun. It is on Friday nights from 7pm-11pm. Prizes include turkey breasts, country ham, pork loins, bacon, sausage, hotdogs, and hamburgers. Cost is $3 or $5 a shot depending on prize. Bring your shotgun and family for an evening of fun. The turkey shoot runs until the Friday after Thanksgiving and is held at the Fire Department parking lot. Concessions are available. Proceeds go to the Fire Department.

Friday October 28th @ Southwest Park in Bear Creek.  This is our annual Trunk or Treat.
