Subject: Re: Independent Weekly came out AGAINST Jeff Starkweather
To all who are trying to convince us otherwise nothing has changed since 2008.

“While we agree with Starkweather on most policy questions-and applaud his organizing-we cannot support his candidacy. As the primary force behind the Chatham Coalition, Starkweather has become a lightning rod for divisiveness, engendering a political backlash to the coalition’s agenda. Additionally, his tendency to embrace complex processes over efficient outcomes and to browbeat those who don’t share his views detract from his potential to govern. With Chatham’s recent churn, what’s needed on the dais now are cool heads and the ability to compromise.”

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at the number of followers, true believers, that Starkweather has on the Chatlist. We now know that he has gone so far to the left that the Independent now endorses him. The Chatlist sentence that particularly got my attention was the following:
” Is it not possible to stop the tenor of downright lies and meanness, and even when people disagree, can’t we still be civil towards each other?”
This person might as well be saying: “As everyone knows, our side is all for civility, but the other side goes for lies and meanness.” Oh, how civil !

I am so thankful for thoughtful, law abiding County leadership! For just a few years, county “policy” was created at the whim of a few and personal preference instead of our official rules and regulations. These activities went unchecked for those dark years. No wonder we couldn’t get video taped meetings! Well, now we have transparent government that started video taping meetings immediately. In a matter of just 18 months our County Commissioners have been able to correct our path. Please view this video of Monday’s Commissioner’s meeting:

Subject: Road Signs
Maybe it’s not so much that people don’t agree with your point of view, but more an issue that road side signs are an eyesore.
Travelling down 15/501 from North Chatham to Pittsboro, we are assailed with signs for karate shops, pro and con political messages, houses for sale, Legend Oaks, Briar Chapel, those running for political offices and on and on. Then when the mowers come through, the signs are swept into the blades and shredded, thus adding more garbage to the already littered highways.

Subject: voter registration on Easter at St. Bart’s
Thank you, Ms. Anderson and others who are concerned about keeping the holy day of our Lord’s Resurrection holy. I could not agree with you more! Please let me explain our reasons for offering a voter registration on Easter Sunday.
First: Our church has and ministers to people from all walks of life and political persuasion. An encouragement for people to register is not considered an improper gesture.

STOP REMOVING SIGNS!!!
It amazes me that the ones who are always clamoring for freedom of speech are not able to allow those very rights to those with the opposite opinion on issues. PLEASE – even if you don’t agree with signs that are posted along the road side – don’t be a jerk and remove them!! This is a free country, at least for now, and everyone should respect other’s rights.

Subject: McManus
I had a solicitation from McManus [asking for a donation] sent to my email inbox. It was addressed to me personally, calling me by my first name.
Does anyone know how a candidate gets email addresses?
To unsubscribe you cannot just click on a button, but have to fill out several lines of personal information first.
As with those automated calls around election time, this unsolicited email makes me less likely to endorse a candidate.

Subject: strange combo of events
I was a bit taken aback by seeing the post from St Bartholomew’s Church combining Easter service and voter registration. This sounds like a political agenda gone wrong.
Easter is the Holiest of days to Christians and I think no one would ever have thought of this. Does anyone else find this kind of weird? I am glad our church concentrates on Jesus and what the day is about..
