Subject: response to Steve Candelori’s post
Steve, I too felt the survey was unscientific with its pre-question “narrative” post on the chatlist and leading questions. It would have been much improved with a neutral party creating the questions in an un-biased way. There really was no way to quantify the data collected. For example, who is to say what “sacrifices” I am making versus the “sacrifices” my neighbor is making? What bearing does that have on government spending? When the economy is in a slump, that is the time that more government services are utilized by its citizens, increasing the burden on government spending. It stands to reason that the government will need to spend more money during these hard economic times in order to support the citizens until they can get back on their feet. This survey makes it sound as if it is a bad thing when it is not.

Subject: Support ALL local business!!
Ms Marie Miller,
This is an unfortunate message to read. We should not disparage our local business owners. Tina and Tommy Meeks are the owners of the Espresso Van. They and the other folks there are LOCALLY OWNED FAMILY businesses who pay taxes, business fees and other contributions to our community - in no way do they intend to be temporary. All of the vendors in the Ford parking lot are our neighbors and I think it’s a beautiful thing they are doing! Turning a vacant spot into an opportunity for local business owners to thrive is a fabulous idea! Noel didn’t have to let other folks on the lot, but in the spirit of cooperation he has welcomed them to share their goods as well.

You know, sometimes people here can really disgust me. All I’ve heard over the last couple years is “hurrr hurrr buy local buy local hurr hurr hurr” and here come’s someone who just can’t stand those pesky local businesses “stealing business” from local businesses.

Just a note to let some of you who may of knew her. We are not sure if many will read the Chatham Record before her viewing so I wanted to post it here. Barbara Fesel passed away. My stepmom lived here in Chatham with my father Jack Fesel who passed in 1996. She volunteered at the rape and crisis center. And had done other volunteer work in the area. For those who knew her and would like to attend services, they will be held at the new Griffin (I think it is Hall-Wynn now) funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm. She was survived by her two daughters Cindy and Jennifer Fox. And stepchildren, Robin Luker, Roy Fesel, Robert Fesel, Ranee Fesel and Ruth Cotten. And many grandchildren. Thank you.

Chatham Chatlist #3631Reply to the Whiners and who do we really blame and has there really ever been bipartisanship in our government.
Yes Clinton did it but the Republicans controlled Congress. So who do you blame?
I also blame Clinton and the Democrats for being spineless as they are now.

Can anyone tell me where I can go to see how the lottery money is dispersed?
I saw a commercial where they collected 1 billion dollars so far. I also hear and it may or may nor be correct that the governor grabbed some of that money for the state debt. My understanding was that money and lottery program was earmarked education only.
