December 20th, the owner of a downtown Pittsboro business posted on the Chatlist: “Beggars and Choosers is closing after Christmas.” “The store was robbed the day of the street fair. We were hit hard and it has taken the joy out of working and I need to take a break to get my groove back.” The same day, I heard a rumor that Chatham Marketplace had been robbed.

Subject: Gang awareness

Has anyone thought about the 2 boys that got beat up by the boys from Northwood that claim to be in the cripts gang?

I want to be informed of whats  going on in our town it seems that no-one is willing to admit that we have a  serious problem. I do not feel safe letting my kids walk the streets of our sweet little town for fear that they are going to get jumped. I want to know if  these boys have been kicked out of school for being known gang members, I want  to know whats being done about it. I want to know that the town is not keeping  quiet and pretending that we don’t have a serious problem here.

Has any other local business owner experienced a problem with this outfit?

Some time ago,   I was called by someone claiming to represent Northwood High School,  asking if I wanted to place an ad on their 2009 Spring Sports Poster.    I’ve done similar local advertising in the past,  but I explained to the caller that times were tight and I was not interested this time.

Subject: Who you gonna call? Greg Stafford

I thought I would let you know that anytime that I get a ticket that my first call is to Greg Stafford, attorney in Pittsboro (his office is right downtown) and he also has an office in Chapel Hill.  He is not only a friend of the family, but my lifesaver for putting up with me by getting me out of ALL of my speeding tickets (I have slowed down now I promise)!  I have no idea about payment plans or whatnot but if you need a killer traffic attorney then he is the man to call.  That is just my two cents!

Subject: My Take on Using “Real Names”

The discussion about using “real names” on the chatlist [and bulletin board] comes up every several years (usually around election time).

Please don’t underestimate the chatlist [and bulletin board] member.  Chatlist [and bulletin board] members are intelligent enough to evaluate the source of an anonymous writing.  They can see it is anonymous.  They can evaluate its anonymity along with its message, as long as they are permitted, as they should be, to read that message.  And then, once they have done so, it is for them to decide what is “responsible,” what is valuable, and what is truth.

Mr. Voller – Do you have a problem with people having a different opinion than you?

Today, I read a post in  the Chatlist that a gentlemans club is waiting to come to Chatham County if this passes. Is this the way to better the quality of life in Chatham County? Believe it or not, there are people who object to Liquor by the Drink and the effects that it will have .

Subject: Gentlemen’s Club Awaits Chatham Liquor Vote Before Making Decision

I hadn’t thought much about the “mixed beverage referendum in Chatham County” vote until I saw this.

I like Chatham as it is.  We fight the big housing developers and the town of Cary to keep our county and towns the way they are.  We try to modernize without destroying what we love
about where we live.  Our towns are safe for the most part.  We don’t have to worry about who/what our kids see walking down the street. Reading that post made me realize what a hole we are digging ourselves if we let this referendum pass.  I wouldn’t mind having a Bahama Mama with supper ;*D…. but not at the cost of jeopardizing all we have fought to keep all these years.  I’ll just visit the ABC store and make my own.

Subject: Bogus “Gentleman’s Club” press release

The “press release” in the April 30 chatlist about a “gentlemen’s club” opening in Chatham County if liquor-by-the-drink passes is bogus. First, there is no Tony’s Cabaret listed in Lodi, New Jersey, where the establishment is supposedly based. Second, the contact person listed is the name of a character in the Sopranos TV show. Third, the number on the press
release takes you to a sex chat line, not a press contact. Fourth, much of the language is drawn word for word from a press release issued in January about a “gentlemen’s club” to open in New York.
