Goldston United Methodist Church is getting ready for June and the start of Summer!  We will be having “SKY” our VBS from June 10 – 13 – the VBS Kick-off will be Sunday June 10 watch the Chatham News for the time.  Then we will be having VBS Monday through Wednesday.  We hope you will join us for our first summer event.  Chatham County JAM (sponsored by GUMC) will have Summer Camp June 18th – 22nd, this camp will feature learning musical instruments, guitar, banjo,
fiddle, mandolin, dulcimer.  Plus many hands on projects in the afternoons, hollern’, pottery, weaving, water games, songwriting and much, much more.  The camp will take place at the Silk Hope

Is your CPR certification about to expire? Do you need CPR certification? You can receive a two-year American Heart Association Adult CPR certification and AED training for only $40.00 on Thursday, May 17, 5:30 p.m. at Curves of Pittsboro, 354 East Street.  The training will be taught by professionals from Emergency Educational Training.

You must call Curves at 919-545-2251 to register for this training.

The class will also include information to help you assist someone who is choking and help you recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack or stroke. If you are interested in taking this class, please call Curves at 919-545-2251 soon as spaces are limited. This class will also allow participants access to the e-book for CPR Training.

This CPR certification training is being held in conjunction with National Curves Day and National Women’s Health Week. Curves will be having an open house the week of May 13 – 19 and offering free 30-day memberships to non-members who visit the club during regular hours. The focus of Nation Women’s Health Week is to promote women’s health and offer women resources for living a healthy, active lifestyle.

Chatham Council on Aging Celebrates Older Americans Month with Special Events

PITTSBORO — The Chatham County Council on Aging wants residents to take time in May to show appreciation for older adults in the community as part of Older Americans Month, which has been around since 1963.

Keeping with the theme of its “Never Too Old to Play,” the Council encourages our senior citizens to stay engaged, active and involved in their own lives and in their community.  Lindsay Hickling, activities coordinator and wellness manager, invites all older adults living in Chatham to visit one of the two senior centers.

As she puts it, “We have a wide variety of activities that seniors can enjoy, including bowling, bocce, corn hole, jewelry making, yoga, etc. Above all, we are here to serve you.”

Besides daily activities, the Council will host Volunteer Appreciation Banquet on May 15, Celebrate Seniors Day on May 22, and National Senior Health and Fitness Day on May 30.

“Throughout the month, we also will be collecting food donations at our two senior centers in Pittsboro and Siler City that would help provide emergency meals for seniors in need,” said Hickling. “We especially need items such as peanut butter, canned tuna, chicken, fruit, vegetables, and toiletry items.”
