It is ridiculous to compare pouring fracking fluids deep under ground to women’s makeup

Subject: Mr. Glendinning’s fracking post

What a ridiculous post comparing the pouring of fracking fluids deep under ground to women’s makeup and drips of antifreeze that escape into the sewer and onto the ground.  None of the chemicals you mention are being poured, pumped, into miles of underground spaces made by machines and high pressure to claim the natural gas there.

Nor are the volumes even comparable.  This post seems a very flippant response to try to make light of a serious issue that needs to continue to be discussed seriously in our county.

November 7, 2011

In response to Mr. Glendinning’s pro-fracking post, I will not attempt to characterize his motives as he does those of environmentalists, but try to offer solutions as he requests.

“I will guarantee that the gas drilling process will be managed to the best professional standards, if we can arrive at a meeting of the minds.”

Subject: Chatham hits 5th on pollution list under Chatham Coalition regime

The Chatham Coaltion Commissioners who preached about a green environment apparently failed miserably. Under the leadership of Tom Vanderbeck, George Lucier, Sally Kost and all, Chatham landed up being the 5th most pollted county in the state of North Carolina.

“According to data that industrial polluters must report to the Environmental Protection Agency in 2010, polluters released over 1 million pounds of toxic pollution into the air breathed by residents in each of twelve counties (listed in descending order by amount): Columbus (3,972,385 lbs.), New Hanover (3,056,955lbs.), Wayne (2,148,960 lbs.),

To answer your criticisms, in part, this email will list sources of data and articles and a few comments.  I will not answer point for point.  I find no purpose in that.

Please avail yourself of the Chatham Journal (chathamjournal.com/weekly).  It contains previous publications on water quality and other issues.  My sources of data are generally cited therein.

For water quality data, I refer you to several sources.  I am sure that these will provide you with current and historical results.
