Subject: Northwood Varsity Baseball Team advances to the regionals!

Our Northwood Varsity team traveled to Kitty Hawk on Tuesday to take on First Flight in the 4th round of the playoffs and after a long awaited rain delay brought us home yet another win!! They now have advanced to the Eastern Regional playoffs wich will be a best of three series.

Our first game will be Thursday the 24th at Whiteville High School at 7:00pm. The address to the school is 413 North Lee Street, Whiteville NC.

Our second game will be Friday the 25th at Northwood  at 7:00pm so PLEASE come out and cheer these boys on if you can. Our boys have been playing some extraordinary baseball and you can be a part of the action during this exciting time.

If needed, a Saturday game will be announced.

Congratualtions Coach Parks and all our Varsity boys for making it this far, here’s to a state championship!!!

You’ve seen “Whose Line is it Anyway” on TV, now try on some lines and characters yourself as you stretch your Improv muscles!

ChathamArts, your county arts council, presents “IMPROV FOR ALL”  with Instructor, Anoo Brod of Transactor’s Improv Troupe!

In this class we will delve into scene work and learn how to up the ante between characters. We will also dabble in some long-form improvisation. Focus will be on side-coaching and direction so that each student gets personal feedback and guidance to ensure growth and improvement. Absolutely great for writers and storytellers too! There will be an optional public performance opportunity with this class. BEGINNERS ARE WELCOME!

You will:
- Laugh like you’ve never laughed before.
- Exercise your imagination like your grown-up life rarely allows you to do.
- Learn to listen more fully and communicate more effectively.
- Gain practice thinking on your feet.
- Enjoy pure, unadulterated fun and play with some of the coolest cats you’ll ever meet!

Two innovative and informative new course offerings at CCCC:

1) Recycling Pallets into Useful Structures:
  Learn the process of creative modular design, attachment, erection steps, and techniques for completing an outbuilding structure using reclaimed pallets. Wed afternoon from 3 – 6, and Thurs morning from 9 -12. Taught by Ed Farbach.

2) A Spiritually Centered Sustainable Lifestyle
  Learn the secrets of the sages as well as the distilled wisdom of a 20 year experiment in sustainable living. Straw bale construction, solar hot water, geodesic dome const4uction, and other techniques. Wed evening from 7 – 8:30. Taught by Trip Overholt.

Both classes begin June 6!

Subject: Haw River Christian Academy – PBO Added Stipulations

The Town of Pittsboro has ADDED a very long and costly list of stipulations to the special use permit granted to the Haw River Christian Academy AFTER the town board voted to approve.

None of these stipulations were part of the public hearings leading up to the approval of the special use permit.

It is a lengthy list, they also seem well out of the range of normal stipulations for any business permit, special use or otherwise, they seem very very unusual.

The HRCA will need to determine if they can live with them, but…

1)  Is it legal to add all of these on AFTER the permit has been approved by the Town Board?  And not part of the quasi-judicial hearing/approval process?

2) Who developed this list of additional stipulations?  And who sent this to the Town’s lawyer to be added on?

I don’t know the answer to these questions, if someone does know, please post..

Subject: Pollard talent show discrimination

My daughter came home from school last week to tell me of a talent show. She surprised me by telling me she would like to sing! Of course I encouraged her to. She chose a song “City on a Hill” by Casting Crowns. This week she came home with the guidelines. To my surprise it stated the music had to be secular.

I spoke to a man at work who told me at his daughters school in Wake county, there was a talen show a few weeks ago at which at least 4 kids performed Christian songs. So this sounds to me to be a case of the opinion of the persons organizing this talent show.

I’m sorry but this is not acceptable to me and it IS discrimination.

Any brothers or sisters out there who can give some legal advice if even needed on this?

Subject: Calling all baseball fans

Our very own Northwood Varsity Baseball Team is co-conference champions of our Carolina 12 Conference with South Granvillle.  Congratulations NW players and coaches!!!!   With that said, we get to play on Monday May 7th at the DAP (old Durham Bulls baseball park).  We are playing for the #1 seed in our bracket of the playoffs which starts on Friday May 11th. The first playoff game will be at Northwood no matter what.

Our team needs a big turnout of fans this Monday at the DAP. If you love to watch baseball and would like to support our Northwood players please try to come out and see the boys play.  They love having their fans cheer them on.

The cost will be $6 to get in.

Hey fellow parents,

As the school year is winding down, it is time to shower Ms. Halsey and Mr. Wustrow with appreciation. They work tirelessly to keep education interesting and relevant for our kids.

In addition to the week of activities that the PTA has planned (listed below), there is one more activity that your kids can participate in to give thanks to their teachers. On Monday, send your child to school with one single stem flower for Mr. Wustrow and one for Ms. Halsey. Your child will enjoy picking it out (maybe from the garden, maybe from the store) and the teachers will leave school with a beautiful bouquet of flowers!

PHS Staff and Teacher Appreciation
Monday (May 7) – Send in 2 flowers and say “Thank You” to as many staff members as possible
Tuesday (May – Donate a book (new or gently used) to your classroom or  library
Wednesday (May 9) Make a card or picture for classroom teachers and other staff
Thursday (May 10) – Donate your favorite school supply to PHS
Friday (May 11) – Bring in a sweet treat for someone special at PHS
