I hired Mark Bashista of Home Performance NC to perform an energy audit at an old mill house that I own in Durham.  He went through the house with a fine toothed comb and gave me a list of things to fix and prioritized them for me.  I made the biggest repairs and the tenants report that their utility bills have come down by almost half.

The opening of Pollard Middle School provides an opportunity to shift attendance zones slightly so that schools are more evenly utilized.
Besides the middle school students from Perry Harrison and North Chatham moving to Pollard mid-year next school year, about 150 kids (Horton, PES, North Chatham) will be moved to a different school. He installed a nice wood floor in our office. When we had a flood  only a short time later, we thought we’d have to put new wood floors in.  Thanks to his advice, we were able to save the floors (and a lot of $)

Blank Shalena and her four year-old son Nicolas currently share a small room in a family member’s over-crowded house, where they have little space for their clothes and other belongings. She dreams of owning a home where her son will have a bedroom and a yard to play in. Though she works hard at a local hospital, she doesn’t earn enough to qualify for a regular mortgage.  She hopes to take classes some day to help her advance in her medical career and create a better life for her son and herself.

Pittsboro, NC – Chatham County Schools will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, January 29, at 9 a.m. for the new middle school that will be in the Briar Chapel development.

Directions: From Hwy. 15-501 north of Fearrington Village, turn left on Andrews Store Rd. Turn right at the Briar Chapel construction entrance that is the first (gravel) road past Woods Charter School.

The new middle school is slated to open in November 2010.

I’ve got a belated business intro, but for someone else’s business…

For anyone looking for a home Improvement/Handyman person, I highly recommend Jeff Gannon.

Jeff has done several small jobs for me, which he is happy to do.   But he also does large jobs as well.  Anything from a leaky faucet to a home addition or renovation, Jeff is happy to do for you, and do it with a smile.  He also does green building and  mold diagnosis and remediation.  He fit my little job in with the big job he was working on when I called him, so I didn’t have to wait weeks for him to get to me.  Jeff is honest, high integrity and very friendly.  He is great at what he does, and his rates are great too.
