Subject: introduce myself and my services
Hi my name is Megan Lucas and I have a pet sitting business. I just learned about the Chatlist and would like to introduce myself and my services. I have been pet sitting for five years and have had dogs, cats, chickens and horses all my life. I currently have several clients and am looking to expand. I have plenty of references. I offer anything from once a day to overnight house sitting. I can customize my visits to suit the clients needs.

Subject: Honeybee swarms
Before you call someone to get your bees you need to know who you are calling.
My friend who is a master beekeeper in the North Carolina Beekeepers Assoc. has been keeping honey bees for over 32 years now. He is the first beekeeper in Chatham County to be certified a master beekeeper. He has 37 years of knowledge in construction. If you have bees in your walls or in a tree and as a matter of fact anywhere and you want them removed he is the person to call. You will not only get the bees removed but you will get an education on the workings of the honeybee and the colony.

Sometimes, when things get very ugly and acrimonious here, I wonder why I bother to read the Chatlist. Then along comes a chance to post something positive and useful and I remember again.

Subject: Tick Control
I also use Frontline on my pets, but I refuse to spray myself, the yard, or the house with chemical agents. It’s a pretty good bet that I’ll be the one to get sick, while the bugs will just get resistant and thrive. I’ve tried every “natural, herbal” product. Nothing works against those hardy little pests.

The Tick-borne Infections Council of North Carolina’s home base is right here in Chatham County. Please visit our website for helpful information. www.tic-nc.org on tick identification, prevention of bites and infections, and tick control. Look under the Resources tab for: *The Tick Encounter Resource Center*. Check out that link. It is full of useful information. Also, look towards the end of our most recent newsletters (under the Publications tab) for information about getting clothing treated with Insect Shield. Wearing treated clothing is really helpful. Be aware no method is completely fool-proof.

Subject: Re: re: sad fish at the Chatham Library
Mr. Dova’s response tickled me. He accuses the original poster of having a skewed, citified perspective, and then goes on to describe a farm as “the natural world.” Mr. Dova, a farm is just a bigger, messier fish bowl. It has about as much resemblance to the natural world as does downtown Detroit. It’s a factory with mud and grass, where animals are exploited to sustain humans. And, yes, that’s where my food comes from too, and no, I’m not a vegetarian, and no I’m not disrespecting farmers. My favorite place in the whole world was my grandmother’s farm where I spent countless hours as a kid. I wanted to grow up and have a farm just like hers until I did grow up a little and I realized how much work and risk was involved.
