Subject: The Great Moodie Geetie . .

Beginning when I was in the 8th grade, my shyness invented another persona. The Great Moody Geetie- He could make people laugh, look and listen. He could speak an unknown language- utterings  that even he couldn’t explain. He was also a loud mouth singer- One favorite was “Swannie”-  “The sun shines east, the sun shines west- But I know where the sun shines best . .”

I often  now wonder just where ‘Moodie’ went. Somewhere along life’s journey, Moodie stepped aside, bowing to self confidence, age and intruding social factors. Moodie seem to disappear for years. No longer needed.

Now, some sixty five years later, I sometimes think i catch a glimpse of Moodie- standing in the shadows- Just waiting to rescue me. Age hasn’t improved my ability to always cope. Recently i picked up the 1953 high school year book. In the autograph section, was a note from Peggy- A favorite classmate. “Dear Moodie” I do hope at last you will find where the sun shines best”- Peg.  Time marches on- Peggy in a facility- advancing dementia.

As the shadows grow darker, I seem to see Moodie more and more. Seem to need him more and more. Sometimes he comes to my rescue- with a funny story or maybe writing a tall tale. Just hope Moodie outlives me . . .
