It was the 1980s.  I knew Jerry, Edma. Virginia, Nancy and her husband Norm. We were all friends and interested in antiques and all ‘did’ the flea markets. Buying and selling to one another and other people. Somehow, time changed all that and I lost tract of them. I last saw Jerry in 1989.  At the time, I knew Jerry’s last name. It was a a common name, especially in Denton, Jerry’s home town.

Suddenly last month, I thought of Jerry- It would be great to talk to him and recall the good old days. Problem was,I couldn’t remember Jerry’s last name.  Norm or Nancy would know. But i hadn’t talked to either in many years, the 1980s to be exact. Of course, the internet knows alls, sees alls, and tells all. I felt confident I could find Jerry.

I got nothing Googling Jerry Denton, but then tried Nancy or Norm- Bingo.  Nancy died several years ago at age 85 and husband Norm died three years later.  Distressed, I wonder if I should even look further for Jerry.  Putting time and years between friends does nothing to enhance the relationship. It can even deliver a punch that will forever deflate your friendship bonds and leave you feeling hopeless, alone and despondent and an unexplained emptiness. I sit in my Chatham home and wonder-why do we do it?

Think about it. Don’t let time and years keep you from continuous  contact. Your last may be your last.
