If you are wondering about “all the types of ticks” please visit our website, www.tic-nc.org, and look at the slideshows on the human-biting ticks. NC has over 20 species of ticks, 5 of which will bite humans and all of these potentially carry diseases. The lone star tick is the worst- is aggressive, may carry quite a few different human pathogens, and is associated with the red meat allergy known as alpha-gal.
