First, I second what Joseph Barr wrote in chatlist – UTI can be dangerous, especially in males.
I was lucky enough years ago to figure this out and get my male kitty to vet to remove blockage.

Second, if you are a cat owner, take a look at: http://catinfo.org/
This site discusses all the benefits of feeding cats wet food, and downside of dry food.
The main points to take out of this are that wet food – any brand – is much better than any dry food, and that dry food is NOT a dental cleaning aid. It breaks up easily and doesn’t do anything for teeth. My cats were switched to almost completely wet food a few years ago, and my old female – now 16 – really did perk up and become more playful.

Finally…my old female cat, 16yo as I said – has had 3 UTIs in last 4 years, I believe, including one we are treating now. They are expensive. Wet food did not stop them, but it may have made them fewer in number…?
