Wednesday, November 9
4pm                         “All Ears” read to a Dog therapy program for kids. It’s a new school year and Scout is anxious to be read to! Young readers (ages 6-12) can improve their reading skills and confidence by reading to our friendly and licensed therapy dog, Scout. Each child will have a 15 minute session reading a book to Scout. The sessions will be every other Wednesday afternoon and space is limited so pre-registration is required. Make sure to make a reservation to read to him, we have a few spots available. Scout is waiting! He’s non-judgmental and would love to lay beside you with his ears wide open listening to you read. To register or for more information contact Children’s Services at 919-545-8085.

4pm                            Drop-in Computer Assistance. Do you have a specific computer question?  Need to know how to insert page numbers in your Word document, create an email account, or get started with library eBooks?  Drop in to Chatham Community Library’s computer lab for one-on-one assistance on the second Wednesday of each month, any time between 4:00 and 5:00 pm.  (If you have a question about something on your personal laptop or device, please bring it with you.) We can typically spend about 20 minutes with each patron.  Please come prepared with your specific questions.  If you need extensive help with basic computer skills, we recommend that you take our Computer Basics classes instead. First come, first served.  No registration required.  Please call 919-545-8086 with any questions.

11am-2pm                 Native American Culture Program. November is National Native American Heritage month.  The month honors hundreds of tribes with over 250 spoken languages and was chosen because it is the month in which many of America’s First People hold powwows, renewal ceremonies and feasts.
Nora Dial-Stanley, a very well-known Native American storyteller and historian, will hold a special program at the library that you don’t want to miss!  Ms. Dial is a member of the Lumbee Tribe and has dedicated her life to educating people and spreading the word about the rich American Indian heritage of the eight recognized North Carolina tribes. Nora brings with her several dancers, traditional drummers, artisans, a flutist, and art exhibits.  The Dancers will be dressed in traditional regalia for the event which will be held in the Holmes meeting room.  This event is free and open to the public. It’s going to be great fun for kids and adults alike!
