Dear Larry,

I respect you as we are neighbors in Mann’s Chapel and we share a lot in common.

I have followed the issues regarding the CAM site in Siler City and I believe that Commissioner Howard had questions about the process, the investment of county funds and the notion that the County would essentially pay nearly $30,000 per acre for land that the developers paid less than $4,000 per acre to purchase.

I am certain that both Howard and Dasher want to create jobs and opportunity in Chatham County and Siler City and they will continue to support good investments of County assets to achieve the desired result.

However, they will also ask reasonable questions and be good fiscal stewards of our resources just as their fellow democrats led by Jim Crawford have been.

If the project continues to have merit it will be fully supported for the benefit of the people of Chatham County.

If the project proves to be a boondoggle; however, I would expect our elected officials to avoid the trap of path dependency and do what I do when I am fishing and it is time for a change: cut bait.
