Surely it is the Jewel in the Crown of Chatham Stores! New Horizons West  has opened in Pittsboro and is unrivaled by any others in the county. ‘Provisions  for work, travel and play.’ Catherine Mills owns the highly successful ‘New Horizons’ in  downtown Pittsboro- The new store is located west of the courthouse in the building formally  an auto supply store Provisions for man, woman and child. New Horizons West is located  at 674 West St .. (64 West) just seconds away from the stoplight at 87 and 64. Open  seven days a week.   Mon-Sat. 10-6, Sun 12-5 pm.  (919) 542-5487.

I spent a couple of hours just looking over the stock and making notes.  Mind boggling assortment of clothing, doodads and necessities for ‘work, travel and play. Vast array of ‘real’ shoes. Brands like Keen, Salomon, Merrell, Dansko and Vionic.  Rugged shoes capable of withstanding climbing Chatham County’s tallest peaks and  bottomless valleys. Tank tops for guys, gals and youth. Backpacks, puff jackets,  insulated vests. Sunglasses that float! Watches that grab your attention time after time.

Insulated ‘long johns’ and ‘long janes’- his and hers. All manner of  rugged clothing for the guys and gals. Soft denim trousers that look like canvas but move with your body.  Bib overalls. Washed duck dungarees. Mountain Khakis. Wolverine vests and heavy cotton shirts. Kozikicks active lifestyle slippers. Carhart tee  shirts.  Sleeping bags, Dolamax sweaters.

Surely I have neglected hundreds of other things. All those gadgets! All  those little things I never dreamed would be up for sale. But wait- You gotta have  “Bloody Knuckles” A soap with lanolin that helps repair and restore damaged hands. It’s  bloody red.

The building next door to “New Horizons West’ will soon be a restaurant operated’ by the beloved  Hillsborough street ‘Phoenix  Bakery. Both buildings  have been totally renovated and restored. Eye catching yellow for New Horizons and soothing moss  green for the bakery.
