Sierra Club endorses Howard and Dasher for County Commissioners
*Chatham County Candidates Get Sierra Club Endorsement for 3/15/16 Primary *

The North Carolina Sierra Club is proud to announce the endorsement of these candidates for the Primary election on March 15, 2016:  Commissioner District 1: Karen Howard; Commissioner District 2: Mike  Dasher.

Both of these candidates have shown their willingness and ability to guide the county through the days of coal ash, fracking, and growth pressures.

Commissioner Karen Howard is an incumbent who was first appointed to fill out Sally Kost’s unexpired term and then elected on her own’ with Sierra Club endorsement. Howard participated in the Board’s successful move to zone the un-zoned areas to get ready for the Comprehensive Land Use plan.

Mike Dasher has served on the County’s Affordable Housing Advisory Board as well as the Green Building and Sustainable Energy Advisory Board. He has followed the Board of Commissioners actions carefully and, more consistently than his opponent, supports the efforts to zone the county and create and employ the Comprehensive Land Use Plan.

Along with the Sierra Club, former Commissioners George Lucier, Carl Thomposon, Tom Vanderbeck, Jim Elsa, Sally Kost, and Gary Phillips have endorsed Howard and Dasher, who will be crucial members as the Board of Commissioners creates balanced growth that will protect both the environment and economy of Chatham County.
